Are dishwashers actually worth it? I've been uhming and arghing about getting one - Currently there is only me and DD at home - come dec there will be me, DD, OH and new baby and not sure whether it will be worth it in the long run
New dishwashers are very well designed and are efficient. I use separate salt, rinse aid and tablets because it is cheaper and works very well. Tesco value tablets and Lidl w5 tablets work very well and there is no need to go for these expensive multi function tablets.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

Definately worth it. If you buy a really good and efficient one it uses less water than washing up yourself. You can put the wash at different settings with mine so if you dont have a full load you can use only the right amount of water/energy. Plus there is nothing nicer than loading it up, closing the door and knowing the washing up is all being done for you whilst you go and do something far more enjoyable instead

Short answer is yes.
It is probably the only kitchen appliance that gets used everyday and it is definately one that is a labour saving device.
I think you would struggle to find someone who would happily give one up, unless they are like my in-laws who wash everything up before putting it in the dishwasher. :cool:0 -
Don't know about a slimline version, but my Bosch has been used twice a day for 11 years and hasn't given me a moment's grief. I'd definitely recommend the brand for durability.
You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

That was me talking, a couple of years ago.
I couldn't see why so many people loved their dishwasher and I didn't think I'd have the need for one.
Then I got one.
It was part of the deal when we bought our kitchen. It was an Electrolux which a lot of people don't recommend but it's worked fine. I wouldn't be without one now.
I do think it's one of those 'have to experience' things before you fully understand the attraction.
In your case, you are going to be busy with the new baby, it will be a godsend for you to be able to stack your dirty dishes out of sight if you're running late etc.
It's a Bosch we have in this rental place. Does the job well but is longer and noisier than my own Electrolux.Herman - MP for all!

Yes dishwashers are definitely worth it! I was a bit like you Mimi, hubby convinced me to get a dishwasher when we had our new kitchen fitted. I didnt think we needed one, now i wouldnt part with it for anything. When it first broke last summer i thought i could live without one.... I will happily admit i was wrong!
I have a Smeg right now and i has lasted nearly 8 years with a few hiccups along the way.
Think Bosch is in the lead right now.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
They are especially good if you have a small kitchen and limited work surface space too. Daft question coming up but if you wash baby bottles in a dishwasher does it leave them sterilised. Am pregnant with twins right now and not sure if going to bottle feed or not yet. Ive been thinking if I do bottle feed then do we really need a steriliser and all that messing around if we could just chuck the bottles in the dishwasher. With god knows how many bottles it could be a quick and easy way to do loads in one go right? Or is the washing tabs and rinse aid not baby friendly?0

Do you want the 'true' answer or the short 'fine thanks' answer? :rotfl:
Ach it could be worse I suppose. It's been hard living with a terrible shower that only spits at you, central heating that wont go above 18 degrees or it trips the electric, no washing machine, tumble dryer, freezer and only a tiny fridge but it's not our forever home so it's just a case of biting the bullet and getting on with it. (And moaning about it a lot. :rotfl:)
However washing machine & dryer arrive today, and freezer has just arrived so things should start to get easier.:D
Lovely area (with plenty of green for those who remember my green worries
) but nothing to do and only one local shop. Eldest is suffering a bit as he's got no-one to talk to and as he's an old woman, he's taking bad to that.
Daughter kinda settled in at school but still early days. It could all be so much worse though so trying to play down all the bad bits. (Until I feel the need to get it out my system by moaning again.
:D)
We do have a dishwasher though. :rotfl:Herman - MP for all!

I gave away an old Bosch that i'd had second hand so i could have a brand new DW in my new kitchen. I chose a Hotpoint and it's not a patch on the old Bosch! The layout's not great, it doesn't always get things clean and the door doesn't seal properly if you don't close it in just the right way.0
