I challenge you to eat an unrefridgerated chicken or prawn sandwich that after 6 hours.

For the last 20 years I have been eating my lunch that has been sitting on my desk or in my car for 6 hrs - sometimes even longer (with the exception of the below) and I am still going strong.

All it takes are some basic organisational skills and a few minutes at home, and you should have no need to purchase takeaway food.

And that is fine - however, I sometimes have to stay away for an evening with work or set-off at stupid o'clock in the morning or sometimes do not know what time a customer meeting will finish and need to grab something convenient before driving home for x amount of hours.

    Everything has a place.

To sell sandwiches legally they have to be kept at below 7 degrees OR they can be Non refridgerated for UP TO 4 hours LEGALLY, obviously it's up to you if you eat your sandwiches 6,8,9 hours after refridgeration particularly the ones contaning mayo I wouldn't recommend eating after 5 hours of non refridgeration I wouldn't want anyone to be poorly.

But what you make at home is your choice from what you buy at Subway or a local sandwich shop. I do think that subway is very overpriced, I went in yesterday to be honest for the £5 footlong meal deal which they have now decided to stop on that day?!?!?!? but let me off this time! Why advertise it everywhere then suddenly change that it's ended that very day! They now have a £3 meal deal 6" sub with drink and crisps or cookie, with just the basic fillings no melt etc just things like ham, tuna, italian bmt etc or you could have it footlong for £5. With the fillings they've now put on this deal they've lost me as a customer.

I know I really should make my own sandwiches because I have a sandwich van but sometimes I really can't be bothered lol.

High quality, cooked and cured meats will not kill you.

Tell that to John Barr's customers (OK cheap jibe, but telling). But they do go off - possibly quicker than cheaper varieties with more preservative - and in extreme circumstances can kill you and in less extreme circumstances make you ill.

Not that I particularly disagree with your point (that people would be financially better off making their own sandwiches) - just that it isn't the universal panacea you propound.

Convenience, variety, time saving, lack of facilities, lack of inclination even are all perfectly valid reasons to ignore your advice.

Though I'd also accept that those who don't take your advice shouldn't whinge about the cost.

There are also far better places than Subway to get a lunch but that's another question

Not heard of a cool bag?

Should be also ban packed lunches for school children, due to the risk of food poisoning?

Yep. Don't have one since DS nicked it.

There's a school of thought says yes to your second question. I do know of a school that does (or did - it was some years back).
