September 2011 Grocery Challenge

Well we've now spent £304 so far in September....ouch. Blown the budget and still a week to go!
The other half did two shops while I was away with work, and spent £103 on both occasions. I'll be going shopping next month so lets see where that gets us. We could do with the money elsewhere (i.e. our wedding savings)!
The Great Declutter Challenge - £8760 -
Trixie - hadn't thought of it being a 5 week month, even so, I'm still over - I've just bought really badly this month - I know where I've spent it so next month will be different!!
Just been to MrA as I had a voucher for there - bought pj's for the winter for me, DS's new winter coat and a t-shirt [for Xmas] for DD, pj's and t-shirt were reduced, bought some bits of food but not much
I've now officially called an end to this month for me and my target and will look at next months figure, I've started a spending diary [3rd time lucky] to see where we are wasting money as its disappearing fast and I can't see where - this time we will do the diary properly which is why I've started it now - DH will be the problem!!
Helen
PS Eveie189 - I've made a note of your target - thank youProjects made for craft fair - 40

I'm trying to do my 1st ever online grocery order:eek:.
I don't actually need a lot but cat food (don't ask:( - & also outside this challenge) which is on offer @ Mr T and have a £10 off £50 + £5 cashback code.
Have been struggling to get to £50 TBH:o (not as easy as walking around the store) and have been trying to get store cupboard things like various beans for casseroles, lentils etc.
Anyway, quick question - obviously this isn't intended for use this month but do I just include it and then set myself a lower target next (will be aiming for a really low target just for fresh stuff):question:Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Am nearly at my budget but have just enough left to go and get some milk and other stuff at T*sco. I need to get bay leaves, loo rolls and I want to get some of the BOGOF Clover because I have the 30p off vouchers which expire on Saturday.
Lunch today was defrosted minestrone soup, which was nicer than I remembered it being when I first cooked it, and tea tonight is sausage and mash for me and DD2 with DD1 having something veggie, but it may have to be beans on toast as she only became veggie a few days ago and I won't have the stuff in for her until I do my stock up for next month. She can have an omelette if she doesn't want beans.
I cannot get over how much stuff is going up in price all the time. The basics/value etc butter is now up to about £1.28 - how did that happen? T*scos have also put up the price of my puppy food from £2.99 to £3.49 overnight, but Sainsbobs still have it for £2.99 at the moment.
Hope you are all doing okay!Jane

I've also noticed how the basics/value stuff has gone up, so opted for Lurpak 2 for £2.50 at sainsbobs - ok its only 2p but its better in my pocket.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

Personally, I take it out of this month and then I should hopefully be able to reduce my budget in future months.
I think a good third of my money this month, was spent on stocking up with bargins to use later.

Discovered a great farm shop, that has lots of locally sourced meat etc, so bought a large beef joint for the slow cooker which will do at least 2 meals.
Did big shop today had 2 £6 off £40, so bought some half price toys for christmas. The nice lady on the till let me use both vouchers! So spent £60 on food, I am really hoping that this will take me through all next week so I will be well under budget.
I have a generous budget so it has been quite easy, even for me, so I am going to have a reduction for next month and try and save for xmas.October Grocery Challenge £4000 -
I've just cleared out the kitchen store cupboard. I've made a list of some bits that need using in the next week or two. I will mealplan them in to use them up. Already have a peach fruit flan to make using a flan case and tinned peaches that are past best before, and Tiffin using up some rich tea biscuits and glace cherries. I will be left with the following to use up-
200g glace cherries
Chickpeas
Couscous
Red kidney beans
Minature Port bottle
Jar French mustard
Jar English mustard
Basmati rice (I love this with curries but DH is not so keen so any suggestions on how to use it up while covering the taste would be great!)
Does anyone have any meal ideas for using up the mustards in particular?0
