I popped in Farm Foods today for the first time ever.Spent £51 but feel I did well. Their milk is cheaper thanIceland but do note its only a 2 litre bottl(smaller)e not a 4 pint which is larger! Got a few bargains-the bacon deal is very good. I will now delay the Asda order which is booked for Monday-it can wait another week. Hate the way their receipts don't tell you exactly what discounts you have-they have the savings like 2 for £4 saving £1 but don't say what the item is!Useless when you've bought loads! however-I will return next time we are on a scheduled hospital visit. I visited their website but no info on there-a pretty useless website if you take a look! I bought 4 bottles of milk so hopefully that will last until middle of next week. 3 loaves of Hovis for £2 was also a good deal. Just for the laugh I looked at the pork chops which seem to be heavily advertised by "Jim Royle"(Ricky Tomlinson) but as I knew-they are not the sort of think we would enjoy.
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults

NSD for me again today, it's quite easy when you just don't have time to shop :rotfl:

Setting up menu plans for August, then I will be declaring my budget for October on the new thread :)

This is going to be very close indeed, less than £10 til friday problem being I have to take my grandma shopping on friday and know I will need some bits by then so I just have to get essentials but pretty sure I will be knocked over. Please can I have £420 again for October going to stock up the medicines in prep for winter.

  • Well still got to get to Friday and overspent by £41.71 :( Bit disappointed but still waaaay less than we used to spend - which I suppose is the whole idea of this.

Not sure how much to put down for October - really could do with getting some extra bits in ready for when the snow comes. Think I'll go check the cupboards now ...
Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend...

  • Not been on here for a couple of weeks and look what happens! I've overspent by £38.38 :(. I so need to do better :o.

I still need to get to friday, may need bread and def need yogs and bananas so I'll try to keep it to a minimum. The overspend was down to 2 large family Sunday roasts for 10, which usually only happens twice a year, never mind twice a month and a bit of extra meat and fish for my poor attempt at the Dukan diet which left me 4 lbs lighter but also very constipated:eek:. Won't be doing that again in a hurry!

So, next month, I'm inviting nobody round for Sunday lunch and diets are out :p. In recent months I've probably been spending nearer £300 so it could be worse. I'll report back on Friday. Good luck for the final few days everyone!

Adding a total of £10.64 between yesterday and today's journeys home from work. No excuses: just about the only really necessary thing out of that was a loaf.

On this evidence, it seems that the later I pop into a supermarket on the way home from work, and the bigger the shop is, the more cash I blow in there. Note to self: if you do need to shop on the way home, write down what's needed before leaving work, go only to the little Mr S near home - avoid the mega one - and get what's on your list, nothing more.

As an added incentive to avoid Whoopsie over-buying, an unexpected new housemate moved into our box-room today [cheers for the warning, Landlord], so me and Him Indoors are now down to having the use of 1 shelf + 1 half-width salad drawer in the fridge, and 2 drawers in the freezer [which are packed solid after we had to stuff everything from the third drawer in them too]. That should focus the mind somewhat... :rotfl:

Ah well, not long to the finish line now. Good to see people hitting or staying within budget, but honestly, you're all inspirations for just TRYING. Keep up the great work everyone.
Haven't done the GC since February, but a glance at the Tower of Receipts tells me I really need to get back into it... and plenty of other Challenges besides. :o
  • My goodness, the month has just run away from me. October really is just around the corner now. I've added £163 to my total from weekly shops x 2 plus one top-up.

I'm going out this morning to get the bits that we have run out of now. Looking at my total I have £30 left from my target and there are some good deals for things that we use week in, week out. I'm tempted to use that extra money to stock up then slash the budget for next month. But then there are 5 Saturdays in October which is when I do the weekly shop

You still did better than me (I'm a singleton too!)

On the milk front, I've switched to Value skimmed UHT at 49p a litre - works out much cheaper because I would often waste fresh milk as I'd have a craving for milk to drink and get loads in, then not drink as much as I had been doing... you know the score! UHT is great, I haven't noticed any difference in taste.

Good to know "I'm not alone"!:D

Re the milk, that sounds a great idea - unfortunately I'm lactose intolerant so the only milk I can "safely" have is the Lacto*free stuff (only comes in 1 Litre cartons about £1.30 a go:eek:).

I may try some of the value uht for cooking though and see what happens (uht is better than fresh as whatever they do to make it long life takes a lot of the "bugs" out).

Me too, I've got a spreadsheet where I record my spends which has a "paid" and a "true" value column, it can be really hard trying to remember what you've got that's been cheaper - BOGOFs etc are OK as I usually remember these, but things that are reduced on the shelf much harder.:(
