And they say January is always the bad month eh?
Shame your ex is playing up - I get nothing as you know as ex not working and I can't face the hassle of asking - he's always got new clothes etc though.......they just don't understand the cost of bringing up kids do they ( or near adults in your case!)
The problem is that when you get money - maintenance or tax credits - you rely on them and when they go its really hard. Even harder when you have to pay it back!! Bottom line is the tax credit system is a mystery - I've never been comfortable with it as I always expected this to happen - I still worry that they'll want more back - no idea why but I just don't trust something I can't understand.
You can only cross that bridge when it comes.
Reminds me - better call N power about my gas ( in case another disaster looms).
Still not got final chimney quote - looking like £14k - I'll be 1/4 of that - jings! And its bound to go up. Just don't know what potion is insurance and how much they'll make me find.....gulp.
Hey ho - looked at credit card statement to cheer myself up. Hoping I can add another £30 pm to payments when council tax bill comes as I was paying more from the move and catching up. Then it'll be gone in 4 months - result!
Onwards and upwards!!May 2018 - £159k + £3.5K CC - let the countdown begin!
March 2019 - CC gone and bye bye M2 on 31st! £140k to go.:j0 -
Yay!
The insurance people have confirmed that they'll pay for it all as it is storm damage. I've only got to find the excess which I can manage - just!
Phew!!! :j:j:jMay 2018 - £159k + £3.5K CC - let the countdown begin!

:j Yesss! that's such good news ds, must admit i was seriously worried for you there & frightened i'd lose you on here if that chimney undid all your good work & tipped you over the top ? So its onwards & upwards now to get this horrible mth over with ! Ex dropped money in & was actually in a good mood & has offered to buy a new bed for son & help do up his sorry state of a bedroom(messy teen boy fraid!) so that will us help out, however my son was saying '' i don't need a new bed Dad,im ok as i am'' !!:o I'm striking while the irons hot tho!
More bill worry today  tv licence now, decided to start paying mthly as its due now, instead of annually as usually do & apparently d/d's will be 24.75 for 6mths then 12.25 next 6 mths, surely thats working out at about 225 p/y not 144 a yr? Rung them & they said thats the way they do it? Is it me being stupid cos i just don't understand how they've worked that out & i just gave up on the 20min conversation @ 12p a min phone call?!! I'm sick of it all this mth,all i need now is a s***ing great water bill :rotfl:0 -

Hi thriftylynny,
Sorry to hijack your thread downsizer btw. You can pay your licence quarterly by paying £37 every 3 months. This means you will pay a £3.75 charge which is included but may be better for you than what they suggest above.
They are trying to get you to pay for the whole licence in the first 6 months, then after that you are paying for your next years licence in advance by 6 months. I wouldn't do it this way if I were you, otherwise your money ends up in their bank account for 6 months when it should be in yours.
I hope this helps you.

Too true ally - I'd avoid that. I pay monthly and didn't have taht 6 months upfront nonsense. Caw - you get stung which ever way you try don't you?
Such a relief about chimney though being the cynical old mare that I am I won't believe it till the bill is paid!! My insurance co said that about the relatively cheap quote that I got - agent for upstairs favours a more expensive one for some reason so I'm letting the loss adjustors fight it out. Never simple.
I've been having one of those mornings - locked myself out and been late for everything arghhhhh.
I need wine - and its only 12.30!!May 2018 - £159k + £3.5K CC - let the countdown begin!

What an awful month ! Spent most of a day off i had yesterday at the doctors & hospital( waited hours) as my poor son woke up with a completely swollen foot & no feeling in his toes which was quite scary  so theyve given him antibiotics for an infection . He also urgently needed his passport renewing (more money!!) so was then racing round doing that at the post office ,getting all the various bits'n' pieces for it !! I now have a rotten sore throat & cold , loadsa that horrid white stuff outside & a flamin' 8 (yes 8 !!) day shift to contend with ? Why is life so very harsh sometimes, bottle of wine when i get home tonight methinks !!

Oof - thrifty - you're having a rough time of it. Wine is the answer!! Did that myself last night and am seriously becoming a lightweight - felt rough today and not a fraction of ' a proper night out' drink wise - very sad!
Neraly finsihed the woodwork painting - thank goodness - then its another project to find............;)
Early night for me - got two chairs to put new (ebay) fabric on tomorrow - watch out for the staple gun....scary thing!!
Hope big-foot is on the recovery and your cold was washed away by the wine?May 2018 - £159k + £3.5K CC - let the countdown begin!

Yep!! a whole bottle of pinot along with the max strength cold capsules certainly hit the spot last night & ive woken up feeling lots better thanks!! Its lovely & peaceful here at the moment, should be catching up with mound of ironing but got feet up & lazing around instead, seeing as i'm at work this afternoon
Big foot was still BIG  last night & very red, im dreading looking at it when he wakes up, hope those antibiotics kick in soon or its back to docs next week with added worry, these things always seem to happen when you're up against it don't they??
Enjoy your day off DS & keep off the plonk till after that staple gun :rotfl:0 -
One chair reupholstered and looking pretty good though I say it myself! Just a seat pad on a rocking chair so not too taxing!
The bairn is on holiday this week and still in bed when I left - OK for some!
Rant alert. Ex is off on a weeks hol in the sunshine - 'an opportunity came up'. Not working - no child maintenance and now can't even help with childcare on a day when I have to travel......
I've not a had a proper holiday in 3 years to save money and he can manage!! Go figure. I shall rise above it however - if he can live with himself......( clearly not bothered in the slightest!) I keep telling myself that I have the moral high ground but ooooh that got my goat the other day! Doesn't register that he makes zero contribution to his daughters life bar the odd ice cream.:mad::mad:
Too many birthdays this month but two pressis bought and one to go. Skint? Of course!
Hope big foot is deflating thrifty?May 2018 - £159k + £3.5K CC - let the countdown begin!
