What a swiz then, i'm a sucker for a good advert :D. It all gets a bit confusing as i thought rice and barley was good.

I have been previously using a hypoallergenic one with higher meat content min 26% and only rice in it but she won't eat it unless desperate and just leaves it all the time and when we ran out i looked for alternatives at a reasonable cost.

I used to use Burns as well but again she didn't like that either and it made her coat was really flaky and her poos really dry on but had no probs with her coat/poo since changing foods...now she just won't eat it :o

Gonna take it back to asda then, i'll have a look at skinners as i do want good food for her.

Think we all believe the hype when it comes to advertisements. You can't really do anything else unless you have some knowledge of it, or ask. I know I believed the adverts when I first got my two.

Or just but CSJ Champ for £10.75 for 15 kg. Then you dont have to wait for deals as its always a good price,

No additives high quality food. They keep the prices down by not having large advertising budgets and as it is counted as working dog food they do not have to pay VAT on manufacture. If you contact them they will happily send out sample

CSJ is an okay budget food. Thing that puts me off recommending it is if you don't have a locak stockist, you have to pay £17 delivery. I refuse to pay almost as much for delivery as I pay for the food. I'd rather get skinners at £19 with free delivery.

Well we are all entitled to our opinions! Wagg is very basic and the people on their trade stand are always very helpful. I have used it for years before it appeared in the supermarkets. Bakers- no I wouldn't touch it either but it certainly doesn't annoy me after all it is a free country.

I wouldn't be paying £22 for a 6 kilo bag of food either- but that is entirely your choice.

But the thing is, you do. A 25kg sized dog needs 250g of barking heads per day, the same dog will need 450g of wagg.

So 6kg of barking heads lasts for 21 days, 6kg of wagg would last 13 days.

    Here's a review of wagg.

I don't expect to change any ones mind. But people look at the bag price and thing it's expensive. You'd get 31 days out of a bag of wagg (I use a 25kg dog as an example as it seems average to me). And twice that and then some out of a 12 kg bag of barking heads (plus there are foods just as good as barking heads but cheaper), so you're paying more for wagg in the long run, and feeding the dog crap.

As I said, I don't expect to change any ones mind, but don't convince yourself you're buying cheaply. You're paying through the nose for crap.

What has to be considered is not price per bag or per kilo but how much of each brand needs to be fed to dogs - only then you get the true picture of the actual, REAL cost to feed each brand.

One may be very cheap per kg/per bag as you need to feed more of it per meal - the real cost is not that cheap really.

Did not check other feeding guides but with Origen I feed Zara 275 gram per day (she is 35kg) and I know some brands I have seen before (cheaper per bag) had recommendations of around 500g per day for the same size dog.

So sometimes, buying the cheaper food (cheaper per bag/kg) is a false economy really.

I already said what Rev is saying - above, earlier in the thread.

One has to always check what is costs per day to feed the dog on any particuler food to be able to compare the REAL cost, not price "per bag"

One of my dogs is a whippet cross, would that food suit him? Why is it especially for greyhounds and lurchers?

It's especially for greys and lurchers as it's less than 20% protein, and has lots of oils and bits to care for their joints - I think it caters to the ex-racers and coursers. A 12.5 kg bag lasts my Roger a month, and he's !!!!!!! huge. I don't know what your whippet is crossed with, and if he's more like a whippet or the crossed dog in stature and body shape. If you look at the burgess greyhound and lurcher food it is quite similar to other foods that are branded as light or diet.

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up; always try just one more time

Agree with this, however, in many cases the recommended amounts are way off .... my dog's on Skinners and the amount for him on the bag is a lot more than he actually needs each day.

He's crossed with a black lab, first cross, front end looks like a lab, back end like the whippet, and he runs like one too, as many poor deceased rabbits have found to their cost:(

I wouldn't want light food for him though.

I should hope so! Even £6 or £7 is bad enough, but I'd never pay £17!
