Meat in a box delivered?

Options
Does anyone get this? I've just received today my fruit and veg box, very nice. I've put it in my garden on a weather proof veg rack, north facing as suggested by Riverford. Hopefully it won't get drenched in the rain

My question is, i may try the medium sized meat box which should last my brood two weeks or even more if some is frozen. This would be cheaper then when i get my weekly shop in waitrose

If you get the meatbox, is it good value for money and do you get plenty in it :D

I'll be back in an hour because my girl needs to do her homework :p

From a very quick squint at the website I clicked through to the shop and it says about mail order meat.

Interesting but I think for now I might see if a deal can be struck with my local butcher instead :) Looks good though I have to admit :)

  • I had a look at this and it looks nice, but I have to say it is really pricey. Just for an experiment (and because I need to get out more lol) I took a list of what is in the £197 meat box:

    1.5kg Chicken
    2 x 500g chicken breast fillets
    1kg Topside joint
    2kg rib joint
    4 x 500g braising steak
    4 x 500g mince
    2kg shoulder of lamb
    2 x 500g diced lamb
    2 x 500g lamb mince
    2kg shoulder of pork joint
    2 x 500g pork loin chops
    2 x 500g Spare ribs
    6 x 250g back bacon

I priced it on the Tescos website and the price for it all came in at £103.31 choosing free range, extra lean and other standard options (not value or special offers) and £140.09 for organic. Sainsburys came in a bit cheaper at £95 for the 1st option and £132 for the organic. I think that it is a bit of a rip off really because you can't see what you are choosing. I have a great butcher near to me who only uses local producers and whose meat is free range and outdoor reared, although not organic and I am going to ask him how much it would all cost and I bet it would be cheaper even than Tescos.

Oh gosh they are enterprising. If their meat is as good as the veg then they will do very well indeed

I am expecting an order from cambrian organics this week but I`ll be trying riverford meat in a month or so

edited: they don`t deliver outside the local area so cambrian organics it is. I hope the meat is good because it is very difficult to source lean organic meat

You really cant compare on price alone, tesco organics for the most part are not English and therefore of a lower organic quality, most of it is organic farmers and growers which is not the same standard as soil assocation.

One of the best organic meat suppliers is https://www.graigfarm.co.uk
