none of this was frozen, it is all prepared and packed the night before, put into cold storage and sent out the next day (We've been to the shop and seen them do it).

  • The farm we buy the lamb and beef from sends the meat in special containers and the meat is all fresh, bagged and labelled, so just needs to be frozen. You can ask for the joints to be made smaller (which is what I did) and the meat was truly fresh and delicious.

You can always collect the meat if you live nearby:confused:

We live about 30 miles from the place but if we all piled down there there would be little room for the stuff we bought, plus we never pay delivery charge anyway.

I've had a Riverford Meat Box delivered about half a dozen times now:

    http://www.riverfordmeatbox.co.uk

The meat is delicious, quantities are generous, and it's well packed in insulated boxes. The freezer packs are always still frozen, and the meat's cold.

We usually get the large box (enough for 4 adults for a fortnight), and find it does us, 2 adults and 2 small children, for a month, with some jacket pototo/ soup type meals in between.

Careful, though - we've found it's a 'never go back' decision, and don't buy supermarket meat now!

    Hi guys

I havent found the riverford website to be that informative so wondered if I could ask a few things:
    • Do you have to order a veg box? If not is there a minimum spend?
    • Do I need to set up a regular order?
    • Is it sent on a specific day each week (the meat box I ordered through them before you chose the day for delivery yourself)
    • Can I see my orders online once set up and can they be altered at all?
    • If I dont want one item for example out the box will they be able to exchange if I email them?
    • Can anyone tell me what their muesli is like please?
Any help appreciated, ive had a meat box before but that seems more straightforward than the veg one so any help would be good!

    Hi boo,

Sorry I can't help because I can't get deliveries from them, but from reading all the posts about them on the board they sound really like a really good scheme.

Why not give them a call on 01803 762720 or send them an e-mail and I'm sure they'd be happy to help.

    Hi guys

I havent found the riverford website to be that informative so wondered if I could ask a few things:
    • Do you have to order a veg box? If not is there a minimum spend? Yes there is. I think they have recently raised it to £15.
    • Do I need to set up a regular order? Not necessarily - they do one-offs
    • Is it sent on a specific day each week (the meat box I ordered through them before you chose the day for delivery yourself) Yes. This depends upon where you live
    • Can I see my orders online once set up and can they be altered at all? Yes - you have an online account where you can amend orders as necessary.
    • If I dont want one item for example out the box will they be able to exchange if I email them? Not sure - I never did this and consequently my parents/sisters, etc often ended up with the things we didn't like!
    • Can anyone tell me what their muesli is like please? Sorry, we never tried this, but suspect it's very nice.
Any help appreciated, ive had a meat box before but that seems more straightforward than the veg one so any help would be good!

We have actually stopped our order as we found we were getting a glut of things and not managing to get through everything. Also, we've been on a bit of an economy drive...

I have to say, though, that the vegetables were absolutely fantastic and when funds allow, we'll be ordering them again.

    Hope this helps!

    * They are franchises, so 'rules' might vary I suspect. I think the cheapest box I can get costs about 9.50
    * I have set up paying by Paypal and just have an order when I want one, it works really well - like when you go away and things like that
    * I have to order by 8pm on Monday for a delivery on Weds, you can see what's in each of the boxes for that week online, and there is a long list of other stuff you can order. I don't know if you HAVE to have a box, as they are so fab I always do
    * they won't let you alter what's in the box as they say it keeps costs down (I'm sure it must) but so far I've only had a couple of things we didn't like and I have given them away to friends, and we have learned about veg we hadn't tried before, so I quite like that !
    * not tried the muesli, sorry.

My daughter gets Abel and Cole, and I think Riverford seem better, the stuff is really fresh and tastes great. HTH.

    • Do you have to order a veg box? If not is there a minimum spend?
Yes you do. The cheapest box is £7.50 (a mini). They also have a range of potato free boxes that contain more summery veg or a mix of fruit and veg.
    • Do I need to set up a regular order?
You need to order a minimum of once every 4 weeks. Each order must contain a box. You can supplement that with other items from a list published on their website (but specific to your area). We order a large veg box weekly and supplement that with eggs and additional carrots fortnightly. That's our default order, in case we forget to do anything, but we usually amend it each week to add or remove items.
    • Is it sent on a specific day each week (the meat box I ordered through them before you chose the day for delivery yourself)
Yes, the same day every week. You don't get to choose. The day will depend on your local delivery. If you go to the Riverford home page and click on "Find your local box scheme", towards the bottom of the page, you can enter your postcode and you will get contact details for the local franchise.

You don't HAVE to be in. Just identify somewhere where the box can be left. Ours gets left behind our wheelybin if we are out.
    • Can I see my orders online once set up and can they be altered at all?
Yes they can! You can set up a regular order and change it for individual weeks up to 4 weeks ahead (I believe). Changes can be made upto 8pm, two days before delivery date. e.g. we can make changes up to 8pm on Tuesday for delivery Thursday.

You can pay online too, but there is a charge for card payments so we just tend to leave a cheque out with the empty boxes (which get returned).
    • If I dont want one item for example out the box will they be able to exchange if I email them?
Unfortunately not, but you do get to look through the contents of the box online if you want, and you can change the box. I was a bit disppointed about this initially, but it has got us eating things I would never have eaten otherwise - I still have trouble with swede!
    • Can anyone tell me what their muesli is like please?
    Not tried it.

Hope that helps. Our local franchisee is very friendly and helpful. Try giving yours a call.
