  • Count me in for the month please, decided to give last month a miss as I knew it wouldn't go well.

Love the thread name by the way!
  • I'm feeling very enthusiastic at this moment in time. I really want a noticeable weight loss before i next see the twerp that dumped me yesterday. Christmas is creeping ever closer too for added incentive. I have ordered a couple of tshirts from Next that arrived today. I've been putting off any kind of exercise because i haven't got any kit that fits. I still need a bra but will get that at the weekend. All set for next week now and i have decided i will go for a walk during my lunch break tomorrow. (I hope this isn't just be the wine talking).

  • Hi dragon and everyone:hello: (maybe a longish post coming up...sorry)

Please can I join? Over this summer holiday I have realised none of my clothes fit me anymore. At first I thought the odd thing had shrunk and then I realised not even I could shrink an entire wardrobe:o I have put on a stone and a half since last year. I have to start work again on Monday and I have very little that actually fits and nothing that fits and makes me feel good about myself IYSWIM.
The February before last for various personal reasons I knew I had to take myself in hand and get my life together. I joined the couch to 5K challenge on here and very slowly I started to get myself fit and then really fit. I could run 10K However it was playing havoc with my health. I had serious back surgery 5 years ago and I was having sciatic pain again. My GP banned running. At first I thought I would wait until the pain subsided and then I would start again however it took ages for the pain to go(and will never be gone completely) and at the moment I am too scared to try again. He also banned surfing, pony trekking and various other sports(all things I had a go at on holiday) The reason I took up exercise is because I love my food. I don't eat particularly unhealthly but I do eat a lot as my appetite is huge. I'm not sure about diets and stuff because I have to cook for everyone and my children also have huge appetites(But are both skinny as rakes) I don't have much time to spend on cooking because I work virtually full time and then having got home from work apart from being a taxi service I usually have about 1 or 2 hours marking to do, elderly parents to help out and all the other life stuff, so time is a huge issue. I am hoping that some support from the people on here will help me to do something about this extra weight. Which will also not help my back if I don't get rid of it.
So trying to think positively. I will have to try and add a lot more walking into my daily plans I will have to try and find lower calorie options to my family cooking. I will have to be even more organised than usual.
I gather we do not have to post our weight but I am going to because to see it in black and white might help....I am currently 154lb. My ideal weight for someone my height and frame would be about 126lb. So if you will have me, I could be here for a good few months;)

    Hi teachergirl

I've been here for a long time in each month, weight is slowly going.

Listen to your dr if he/she has banned running etc, then don't do it.

My dr banned me from paragliding, bungie jumping (sp) and kite sufing!! none of which Ihave ever done, but I think he was making his point, he said for me, lots and lots of walking, then faster walking, and if / when I felt up to it slow jogging (I have the most awful balance, owing to my deafness) so falling over is very likely in my case! but walking has done me ok but I get so bored by it!!

Welcome everyone else, lovely to see so many for this month, keep with it and it will work!.

  • Thanks Kazwookie. Glad to know you can loose weight by walking. I am listening to the dr really, just in a bit of denial, I guess. I don't feel old enough to be banned from exercise.
Like you, I also find walking boring especially compared to the rush I used to get when I had been for a run. Where I live there are some beautiful places to walk out along the sea wall. But I know to use as many calories as I would do running I will have to walk for a good deal longer and then time becomes a factor again.
Still new thread, new challenge and hopefully a new me by Christmas?:)

I have to do some school work today so I have not had time to look yet but are the websites in the first post free???

From what you have posted I don't think your dr has banned you from exercise only the running bit owing to your back.

Can you bike ride, if you can and have a bike (or look on freecycle for one) that might help you.

I've banned my self from bike riding, I am too dangerous, and roller skating / such like :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I do want to quad bike, (road legal one) but OH has banned me from that, as he says the are too dangerous and are likely to tip over! :rotfl:

  • Morning again Kazwookie...does quad biking help you loose weight then????;)
Sadly he has really banned all exercise apart from walking even swimming aggrivates my particular problems. He laughs at my attempts to find something he won't ban and says my brain just has not caught up with my body yet:o Sometimes you have to give it a short go ,just for quality of life...ie.surfing(which I did for a whole two hours)...I was completely rubbish at it and had to have a chocolate brownie to recover from the cold ho hum. I have got an old bike and was contemplating getting a new one for my birthday. However the roads around here are not terriably safe for cycling on as they are tiny country lanes and the cars go too fast around blind corners. Also the falling off could be a problem for me too:D I might borrow my daughters for awhile before I buy one and then just end up leaving it in the garage.
Now I haven't tried roller skating:whistle: My guess is falling over could be a problem there as well.
I am just going to have to stop being such a miserable old bag and give the walking a go.

  • Hi teachergirl
have you thought about walking with a friend - its more enjoyable and if you up your pace and can still talk without being breathless then you are doing well - or what about a walking group - maybe not hill walking but there could be graded walks which wouldnt put strain on your back - walking can be boring but try to see it as a personal challenge - doing the same route in less time or doing more in the same time - I am sure you will get there.

I wish i could even walk - with my health I dont even manage that - a few mins on an exercise bike and I am done in!!! LOL!

    better do today's stint!

    tootsx
    Peace will be mine
could do better - must try harder
