Hi,
I've got a dark blue cotton top with grease marks on. I've washed it once, but no joy. Any idea how (or if) I can get them out. It's one of my favourites

Have you tried putting some washing up liquid on the stain, let it soak in for 20 mins or so and then popping into the machine0
-
OK it's not terribly old style but it's the only thing I've found that works for grease marks - it's called Stain Devil and they sell it in the supermarket Sainsbury's, Tescos). It's in a small yellow pot and they have different ones to cover different stains. It's the best thing I've used for grease.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

Hi sleepybookworm,
I do the same as Chezell and it usually shifts the grease mark first time.
There's an earlier thread with more suggestions so I'll add your thread to it.

Washing up liquid rubbed into the stain works every time for me too.
If you think about it, that's more or less what they use to clean up seabirds when there's been an oil spillage at sea. If it works for that, it'll work on grease stains on clothes.0 -
i used to work in a dry cleaners and we had a tip for customers when fat oil grease is spilt on clothes soak it up using talcuum powder then brush off and use wahing up liquid on the spot then was as mormal but do an exta rinse to make sure washing up liquid is fully washed out

Does anyone know how to get grease marks off coloured T shirts? Failing that where is the cheapest place to get a nice old fashioned pinny!!0
-
if you iron over brown paper it will soak up the grease, not sure if it'll get rid of it all though, might be worth a try.

ps i got a pinny from a shop that sold, towels, sheets, tea towels, duvet sets etc, something like rosebys i believe.0 -
Hi coxy,
I usually put a drop of washing up liquid directly on to the stain and wash in the usual way and that normally removes it completely.
There's an earlier thread with more suggestions so I'll add your question to it to keep the replies together.

I rub a little Fairy Liquid into the grease blob and then wash as normal but at 40 not 30 and that seems to work for me.0
