Kissjenn: Unless you have some kind of physical problem, you are NOT "tone deaf". However, if your musicianship was not developed much between the ages of about 3 and 6; it will take practise to sing what others sing "naturally", though eventually it WILL become "natural" for you too (hope this makes sense, it's late).

    Do you have a piano?

At choir do you sing from score or without one? The reason I ask is due to sight singing being an entirely different (and more difficult) skill to master.

    Some easy exercises:
*Sing a major scale, starting on C (so C major). Once you've sung the one octave major scale, work your way up the piano in increments of a semitone. So, once C major has been sung, go to Db major, D major, Eb major, E major etc. etc.

(Major scale = TTSTTTS (T being Tone and S being Semitone)).

*Play chord I of a major scale in root position (C major = C, E, G) and starting note (tonic (C)), then sing back the tonic.

*Try to pitch a major third above the tonic, play to check if t's right then sing tonic, major third above and down a semitone to minor third above the original tonic. Given the example of C, a major third above is an E and a minor third a Eb.

*Sing the major and minor arpeggio relating to the tonic. Given the example of C: major arpeggio = C, E, G, C and minor = C, Eb, G, C

    Huzzah!!!

So plan so far is Rising and Lou meet up and Moo and I will catch up with you about 2pm? Sounds good...just let us know where. I'll bring some triangular bandages to show off my new medical training :j:j

Hi Alex thanks for the singing tips. It will be a good excuse to get the piano tuned and pick up the stool from a friend who was recovering it.
I am actually 90% deaf on one side and 50% on the other. But look upon that as an excuse rather than reason for being lousy. We dont use sheet music but listen and repeat and then add the various parts together. I usually pick the bits I like best regardless of what my section is up to :o

GG - Horrible bird story. Boy kitten has brought home 2 and half ducks since yesterday. How he got them through the cat flap is a mystery. Went round all the neighbours (now found 4 of them are hunters) to ask if they'd lost any ducks...that get's you a few weird looks. Eventually found some evil person had dumped a big bag of dead birds (ducks, seagulls, oyster catchers etc) in the field behind us. Kitten thought he'd found the woopsie aisle in Tesco. He's locked in until SSPCA come tomorrow to try and work out what's happened.

Criminology was good tonight. Only 10 of us but it seemed the perfect number for debate and banter. Mad old bat was on top form with circular arguments that just left you going "Eh". We're doing Freud and male and female brains next week complete with a model we can poke at. Cool!!

Ah, well that will change things slightly but I'm sure you can improve. :)

:rotfl: Reckon if I lived your way, I'd turn up to the criminology class just for a laugh, sounds like some real characters.

Can't say I lot about Freud to be honest but in my unqualified opinion, I've always thought his crackpot theories rather amusing. You are quite welcome to the brain poking, however.
