Hello kissjenn just discovered your thread - thank you for all your support on my thread - I have now subscribed. Love your tribute to your surgeon. Mr SA has a brilliant consultant whose pet interest happens to be his type of lymphoma. And there is a Maggies at Mr SA's hospital. Heard it's a wonderful place but not yet visited.

    HI SA.

Maggies are great. They have loads of practical support, will answer any questions or concerns you may have regardless of how "distasteful" some people may find them They'll cuddle you or send you a pamphlet or anything in between.

At ours you can pop in when you're at the hospital or make an appointment. They have on staff psychologists, anything you want they'll try and help.

The guy who runs the Edinburgh one patched me up when my mum was going through treatment and her subsequent death, Then when I turned up because I had it he remembered me and he knows if he sees me it's bad. So he sits me down, makes me tea, we agree a strategy and he kicks me out until the next time. Works for me but I know everyone is an individual.

We're so lucky to have so many dedicated people in the NHS. I'm very lucky to have one of them, sounds like Mr SA is too.

We're all here rooting for you SA. So easy to say I know but anything practical please say and I'll do my damndest. And do try Maggies, at the very least you'll get a fresh cup of tea and a biscuit. :A

Step 1 - Open Nellephant and Hippo to see how much we have.
    Nellephant = £650. Hippo = £586.

    Total to Spend = £1236.

Step 2 - Wish List (all ideas gratefully received)
    • Barra - Land on the Beach
    • Orkney - Wee trip to see the sights, the MSE'ers and the Northern Lights
    • Edinburgh - Selection of Theatre Tickets for the Winter / Spring
    • Lion King (Playhouse)
    • Evita (Playhouse)
    • Brigadoon (Kings)
    • A Christmas Carol (Lyceum)
    • Geobash 2014

:T Wow well done on Nellephant and Hippo's contents! :T

..If you decide to do the Orkney trip please pretty please can I come too? I'd love to see the Northern Lights, and MIL grew up there so DH has told me many stories of child-hood holidays; would be fascinating to visit some of the places in his 'photos, and also maybe meet more MSEers who are making good lives up there. :cool2:
And CD could stop Husky getting [STRIKE]bored[/STRIKE] naughty.. ;)

    Hi Robin,

That would be great. If we drove up we could take the girls with us, although I'm sure CD is much better behave that my little nutter.

Would it be completely against the ethos of MSE to do an Orkney meet or completely in the spirit to do a meet that we can all afford and save for?

Mara, what's the best window for the Northern Lights?

Who's up for planning a wee trip northwards? (Don't care if it's cost effective but we're not rowing there!!)

Aw, CD is much older so jolly well ought to be a good influence (had a few 'mad moments' in her youth, lol). Good point about driving though; in the winter flying might be easier/safer (and probably cheaper than rail fares, ridiculous though that is)?

Ah, the boat.. Is it the same ferry which does the Shetland run? A work of art in timber and polished brass - gorgeous!
