No removal of self scanners near me - all ok in my stores....

BUT I have noticed that some of them have been seemingly deliberately broken (screen has gone funny and cannot be read - looks like someone hit it hard) and they are never repaired. My suspicisions are raised by a local store having two scanners both with the same fault on their screens....I reckon the manager hit them both with a hammer in a rage after a potentially large and painful R+R

The scanners have been discussed quite a few times over the course of the 17 threads that have been around....

They have not been disabled as part of an ongoing attempt to thwart r&r, they have not been removed in an attempt to aviod giving money away and they certainly have not been hit with a hammer in a rage.

The technology that the scanners were based on is now obsolete and extremely costly to replace. The replacement of them is probably not at the top of the priority list given other problems that may or may not exist within stores.

Newer stores and refurbished stores are having the newer ones fitted and all appears to be well with those.

  • Just been to my local branch.

It's a 24hr store (there til 22:10 dicussing with the staff).

I managed to get the Xbox 360 Gears of War Premium bundle (279.99/299.99).
There were 4 on the shelf (2x Gears Of War, 1x Pro Evo and 1xFIFA) - I only checked the Gears Of War one, and it scanned at 299.99.
Took the console to the checkout, paid for it. Went to the car, returned with console and receipt and asked for full refund. After a 20min wait, and a nice talk with the CS person, the duty manager and the store manager, I came out with a free console.

    Thanks guys.

PS Oh I also picked up a book about losing weight whilst sleeping... cant remember the title.. but it scanned more than what was stickered on the book. I totally forgot about it at the time - will return it on Monday (if I have the balls to confront them again.)

    Hello,

Am totally new to the whole MSE experience, but am incredibly impressed by what I've found on here so far. It would be even better though if I could understand it....

I get the whole concept of R & R but how on earth do you know what stuff to buy? I went yesterday and picked up a few things listed on here but they were all correctly priced. Do you just try things on the self-scanners, or is this a sure-fire way to get busted by Customer Services!

If anyone could give me some advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your time,

A soon to be (hopefully) MSE!!!

    Gah!

    Just got burnt on R&R!!!

Went to my local T and found 4 Gameboy Advance games priced £19.94 or 2 for £30 (exp on 26/12/06). Bagged the lot and scanned them.....£19.97 each.

Feeling pleased with myself I bought my shopping and these lot, watching them scan through at £19.97. Went up to the CS desk and presented them with my receipt and four games, explained my tale of woe at being overcharged (distinct muttering of "Oh my god" under the CS's staff's breath)....and at this point, became unstuck.....

Never having done this before, I didn't notice they deducted the discount right at the end (unlike Sainsbury's) Indeed, there at the bottom, as pointed out with a big smile on the staff's face, was my deduction of £19.88, meaning I'd correctly been charged £60 for all four games

I returned the beaming smile, said "Brilliant!" and marched back to the misses explaining I now had to buy a Gameboy Advance.......:rotfl:

Incorrectly charged on the receipt at £19.97 but still did the two for 30. My own greed got the better of me, a lesson learnt!

Just tried a few of these game boy advanced games, sticker on box price £19.94 all scanned at £19.97 / £19.99.

Dont have a game boy so did not bother.

But no reason why anyone could not buy them one at a time to stop the buy two for £30 kicking in?

Also seen a very large Screwdriver pack with SEL at £4.97 but clearly in very big writting on the boxes was the price at £4.79.

For some reason late tonight my tioletries and beauty vouchers from the Quit packs and / or the health and beauty £1 one for toiletries would not scan AT ALL on 4 x shower gel BOGOF at £1.48 each? Strange as it worked earlier today.

Noticed the batchelors cup a soups I had bought had not went through at BOGOF when I got home so will double check this again tomorrow.

After weeks of trying, lost my RnR virginity today.
    Horrid Henry 's wicked tales - kid's book, sticker £4.97 SEL £5.97.

"And you get all your money back..."

"No really? Thank you very much!"

variation on this one - sticker AND sel both 4.97. One confused cs but r+r no probs. sel ended /01 so it may not have been updated?
