McDonalds/Subway/Greggs - Discrimination?

As a former McManager (during my student days) I can explain the reason McDonalds dont do breakfasts after 10.30 is because of the equipment needed. A clamshell grill needs to be set at a specific height and cooking time. A normal burger, a quarter pounder, breakfast sausage, bacon and special burgers will all need different settings. Then the eggs also need one grill set aside. Then in the kitchen you will need the toaster set at different levels again depending on special breads, you need a steamer to keep the breakfast foods moist, you'll need a side set up side for burgers, one for chicken/fish and then you'll need another for breakfast.
The vast majority of Maccys dont have the space for all that. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20 -

That's all very useful to know, Drunkstar. But Murcia doesn't want sensible explanations like that! It's discrimination, don't you know?!"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
I was on a training course today, and we were talking about heat stroke - one form being caused by working in extreme heat - here in Scun*horpe the steel works used to give workers a pint of beer at end of shift, and several local pubs were open at 6am - ready for shift change. I like that idea... why should shift work mean your life cant have some enjoyment!
That's probably more knowing your market.
You try getting a salad and a double mocha latte at any time of day there.0 -
Although i agree with the general feel of the thread...OP no it isn't discrimination and there are FAR bigger things you could concern yourself with.
However, as a side point i LOVE maccy d's sausage and egg mcmuffins and if they did serve them all day, i too would purchase one over a burger!0 -

I'm envious of the OP if s/he has so little to worry about that they build up a head of steam oin this matter0

Firstly, I often work unsociably hours. Usually I begin work late afternoon and arrive home early morning. I'm sure you can imagine this plays havoc with my sleef pattern! As a result of this, I often eat "breakfast" around lunchtime, often early-mid afternoon.
Just try going into any of the big chains and asking for breakfast at 2pm, they look at you like you have just made the most unreasonable request possible. I just don't get why this is, is it really that hard to stick some bacon under the grill and put it in some bread? Why is this not a probem at 9 in the morning but virtually impossible at noon?
I have complained to stores previously about this and been given all sorts of stupid excuses, but most cafes can serve breakfast all day so why can't the chain take-aways?
What crosses my mind is whether this is actually a type of discrimination? I am not able to get to their shops at what most might consider "breakfast time", I cannot alter my work and life pattern just to suit when they might think it appropriate to serve "breakfast". I am put at a disadvantage through no fault on my own.
This is more of a rant than anything else, but does anyone know how I could persue this matter further, maybe through trading standards or similar?
Are you for real?? I work 8 till 8 most days and find it very hard to get into any of the high street shops as they are usually closed outside of my work hours does that mean they are discriminating against me..........no they are just providing a service in a time which is most profitable to them.
My advice is to buy a loaf of bread and a pack of bacon then take it home and cook it at whatever time you like.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
ugh, someone complaining that that a shop no longer sells a product after the time they advertise they stopped selling a product. i should put a vent thread up for idiot/nonsense thread starters.Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
