I know exactly what you mean. We've had a good old clearout over the past three weekends and made enough for Christmas AND got the back bedroom back. The last few items have been a hassle, because they are relatively low value, and there''s all the hassle of wrapping, packing, labelling - however, it's done now, and there's not been less than £100 cleared each weekend. Now to get stuff tidied up and put back to normal. No more bubble wrap, sticky tape and cardboard boxes about the place. Phew!

This thread has got me motivated to list a few things, including 3 bottles of partly used perfume. They've only been on since lunchtime and one already has a watcher and there's a bid on another. :) I'm wondering whether to sell a couple of empty ipod boxes as well. :o
  • @jackieb I definitely would try listing the iPod boxes. If you start them at 99p then you lose nothing if they don't sell :)

I think I will. I have 60 watchers on the 6 items I have on just now - all started at 99p. Three items have bids already. Just need to get a move on and get the boxes listed. :)

I also have a rotary dial BT phone but I think i'd start at a wee bit more than 99p.

I already have seasons 1 and 2 of The Big Bang Theory on dvd. My son wanted seasons 3 and 4 for his Christmas. The boxset of 1,2,3 and 4 were the same price as just seasons 3 and 4, so i'm going to list the seasons 1 and 2 that I already have. I didn't buy that for anyone but me so it's not like i'm selling the kid's dvd's from under them. :p
  • I keep looking at stuff round the house, wondering what I could sell.
I have sold old copies of 'Slimming World' magazine before as you can't get them overseas.

  • Out of curiosity, do we think it's better to list loads of stuff now to catch the Christmas rush, or do you think we'd make more money by leaving it a couple of months and waiting until the rush is over? Can't help but think eBay is flooded at the moment...
  • Ask a retailer if they think it's a good idea to sell in the run-up to Christmas or wait till about February! The market is flooded, perhaps, but with buyers as well as sellers. I think people are more likely to either be actively looking for purchases as presents, or have time on their hands to browse as the holiday gets under way - dark evenings, cold weather, a bit too much booze in the house - all a recipe for bidding sponateously! Also, you only need two bidders to fancy your item and get into a bidding war, and you're away. I've found this - well, actually, a couple if weeks earlier, by preference - so be a good time of year to sell.

I suppose it also depends on what you're selling, and whether people are likely to be able to pick up heavily discounted deals in the shops for similar things - not the case with what I usually stick on there, but it might make a difference, I imagine.

Hmmm - how does this work then? Is it no fees if you start the item at 99p? Didn't know about this rule...

You get 100 (I think) free listings a month if you start them at 99p. This is why a lot of people start things at 99p, so that there's nothing to lose if they don't sell.

I've just seen a £10 Argos voucher go for £10.10. Can anyone explain that?
