I'd say 5 days is far too long. If you leave a set of books with anyone for that long, then you're missing the chance of getting the books out round other houses.
This is only the case if you've based the number of brochures ordered on a 2-day turnaround time, but then in reality leave them for longer. If you're leaving brochures for 5 days you'd base the brochure number ordered on that, plus how many houses you have to cover, and in the end that would mean you still reach every house you need to in the campaign.
I leave mine for 1 or 2 weeks with customers and 1 week with houses I'm recanvassing - but I just order enough brochures to make sure none are missed out.I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for.I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.

It's swings and roundabouts really - as you say for some people it's never long enough, but some people do like longer with the book as they might take it into work, to a friends/family but just not admit that some of their order is for other people (I have this, even though if I knew it was a new customer they'd get 10% off and my original customer would get a free gift as a thank you). I leave my books with customers for 1 week, I tend to put the book out on the Thursday I'm making deliveries, collect the following Thursday morning (I ask them to leave them on the step from 8am), then chase up books that I've not been able to collect on the Thursday evening after 6pm so those who have been out to work should in theory be home for me to knock
Any I still haven't been able to collect I put a card through saying "Please contact me by 5pm Monday if you wish to place an order", then the Monday I collect the book from the local school, and that evening chase up any books from those who have asked for longer or have contacted me. Works for me and means I then have Tue & Wed to look through the orders and troubleshoot them before I put my order through on the Thursday. Okay so my customers don't have a book for 2 of the 3 week cycle, but I've found loads were loosing them or not contacting me in time for orders. This way people know how long they have with the book, and when I'll be calling.
This campaign (C18 for me) its worked brilliantly for me, I put out 55 books, I have 4 to collect on Monday (they've asked for longer and one is the school one), and I have lost a total of 3 books instead of the usual 10Unfortunately the majority of them either stink of smoke or are soaked from the rain despite me supplying bags so can't be reused
Oh well, only 1 more to go out before Xmas then I'll start slowly re-canvassing from c5 using the c4 books

Ooo I forgot to add a tip for if you're leaving brochures with people for a week or longer:
- collect as many e-mail addresses/mobile phone numbers as you can and send them all a reminder message a day or two before you're collecting the brochure. This way, if people have forgotten about the Avon and put it to one side, this gives them a shorter time-scale to work to.
So you've got a 'best of both worlds' situation in that the people who need shorter timescales to work to have got one, and the people who need longer to get around to looking at the brochure have had it for as long as they need. But you've had to do fewer trips in and out collecting your books.I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for.I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.

Hello
Just thought I would pop in and say hello.
I have just joined Avon and hope to sell to the girls at work. I have asked the manager and he said as long as I leave in the canteen and not in the work place its ok. Also, that I register that I have secondary employment now. My line manager who has to sign my permission slip said "is it worth doing you only be earning pennies, as you will be taxed to high heaven". Put a bit of downer on me but I determined to succeed. I am the only one in the house working and some extra pennies is better than no pennies as hubby can't get benefits.
Any how - nice to meet you all - will have a look round and see what I can pick up in this thread to help me in my new chapter.
Kind wishes to all

Hi and welcome
yeah some people think its not worth it - they've heard of friends/family trying and finding it not worthwhile - but I've been doing it for years now, both me & Dh work full time - he does 56 hours a week and I have a long commute - but we still do avon and can't see us stopping any time soon, because it works for us, it fits around our commitments and we've got it down to a fine art now so it doesn't take too long. So hang in there - the first few campaigns are the hardest while you get the hang of how to do things, and getting your customer list built up. Once that parts done its so much easier so don't get disheartened yet
don't ever think of it in terms of an hourly wage though, but more from the point of view that you can do a lot of it at home while watching tv in your pjs and you can fit it in when you want, which you couldn't do with another part time job. Plus there's the fact that you can save yourself money on things you use everyday - shower gel etc so it saves you money as well as makin you some money
