HP TouchPad

how has the plot thickened? everyone who bought before the 23rd already knows they will get a refund...surely??
I've received an email today from Amazon with a link to an HP refund site.
The HP refund website actually states that the Touchpad must have been registered to a WEBOS account by the 23rd.
My order was received on the 24th and remains boxed, unregistered in case I need to return the Touchpad to Amazon.
On that basis it would seem not to qualify for the HP scheme and I should continue to work things through with Amazon, I attempted calling the HP helpline to confirm this but they were initially unable to help and bounced me to a dead line for the Touchpad team.
if anyone has more information on this scheme or hears any further news from Amazon regarding partial refunds then it would be much appreciated.0 -
My order with Comet has been processed and had money taken out (actually taken out, not just authorised), last week. I ordered on Monday 22nd, when I called last Wednesday they told me I was one of the lucky ones and would be getting a tablet, but the delivery date had been set to 5th September.
Delivery due date is Monday 5th. Supposedly, according to the list going around, they were due a delivery of 300 Touchpads yesterday, but when I called nobody had any clues what was happening.
If they're going to deliver on Monday, they'd need to dispatch today, and tracking is still coming up empty.
UPDATE: If anyone's interested. They have them for people who'd previously ordered, and they have been dispatching them today by ParcelForce. They should be delivered on Monday. Tracking information will be up tomorrow (Saturday.)
My story: They input the wrong postcode on their delivery system for me, which is why they kept struggling to find my order. Because they pull up an address based on the postcode, they have wrong address too. So my paper invoice had been sent to the wrong address, and my Touchpad may be too if they can't intercept it and get the address updated before Monday's delivery.HOW CLOSE CAN IT GET! ARRRGGGHHH. I need a nice (decaf) cuppa and a biscuit, asap - it's an emergency! LOL.

Quidco are giving 8% cashback and free delivery on orders from HP, good for chargers etc, if you have been lucky to get a touchpad.
The touchstone is £35 inclusive.0 -
Well... as has been the pattern throughout this crazy adventure - consumers in the UK continue to get a raw deal.
While America seemed to have thousands of 16/32GB TouchPads available on sale at the low price of $99/$149, the whole of the UK appeared only to have a fraction of that available (i.e. hundreds, issued sporadically) at £89/£115. Good to see where HP's priorities lie.
HP has now confirmed that one final batch of TouchPads will be produced - but they will only be available for the North-American market.
So what opportunities remain for UK consumers to get hold of sale-price TouchPads?- An unsubstantiated rumour that select UK retailers (e.g. Argos) will be receiving a final shipment around 11 September.
- Getting hold of a TouchPad from the final batch that will be released in the USA and shipping them over here (if you can find a retailer who allows you to do so - e.g. BestBuy will not)
If anyone has any other leads or suggestions, please post them here.
Thanks
Oh... and well done to PC World's Business website - the latest in a long list of incompetent retailers who took many more orders than they had actual stock (surprise) and they even phoned people up to confirm that the TouchPads they had ordered would be supplied, only to cancel them the next day. Deja vu. And many of the (very few) people they actually managed to supply TouchPads to were not even legitimate businesses. Nice.0 - An unsubstantiated rumour that select UK retailers (e.g. Argos) will be receiving a final shipment around 11 September.

Someone a little bitter?
As for the comment on HP's priorities, the US is their home and main market its common sense for them to give it priority.
You may also try the palm euro store for stock (pre3) and possibly touchpad.0 -

No... not bitter - just telling it as it is.
I'm just a bit bemused at the way so many major UK retailers have mishandled this - no wonder HP concentrates on the US market. They could have just concentrated on the Chinese market - that way they could have avoided any shipping costs.
But no doubt retailers would have mishandled it there as well, as in Singapore the other day - TouchPad frenzy is now a global phenomenon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gnh3BoUypcs0 -
Someone posted https://www.bundlebox.com on here I have not used it but its meant to be good for getting items delivered from the us.0

BundleBox quote the following for shipping a 16GB Touchpad to the UK:
Purchased for US$99.00
Shipping Cost £40.37
Duty £0.00
VAT £20.28
Total £123.74
The difficulty with US retailers such as BestBuy is that the CC billing address (as well as the shipping address) has to be located within the US.
But it would appear that BundleBox could arrange to purchase the item for you at an extra charge. Not sure how this would work with an item as in-demand as the TouchPad.0 -
An online petition has been launched in response to the news that the UK is not going to get any more TouchPads allocated, while the US is to get upwards of 200,000.

martin451 you seem bitter and fail to grasp how the limitations of stock allocation works. Sure every retailer could have a 100% working system, but in the world of diminishing returns it would simply cost too much. Point is, Argos, PcWorld, John Lewis, every singe retailer site I've used works 99% of the time in normal or above normal circumstances, I think we can all agree this saga is a one off for this techgen and probably won't happen again, so why spend tens of millions on new software, new hardware and new employees for a event born out of extremely unlikely circumstances.
Take a chill pill and relax, or if you really want one, buy one off ebay otherwise you are moaning over a excessive luxury in your life when there are more worrying things you should be looking out for.0
