Valentines day is Our wedding anniversary 26 years this time we always go away for the weekend.
When we were first married we always bought each other both anniversary and a Valentines card but has the years have gone on it is now one or the other.

I like Valentines day, I alway like to exchange a card with my partner but this Year we've agreed to only buy fairtrade presents for each other. So it benefits others and isn't so commercial!0

Oh Winchy I hope she takes you! Would be so disappointing otherwise. You'll have to start hinting!0

Last year - in an effort to save money - I made my boyfriend a 'mock-up' magazine cover and put him on the cover of Heat Magazine. (Free for me to do as I am a designer) Everyone who saw it really liked it, so I now run a side business (I am in animation for my full time job) which is growing really steadily and helping pay my debts off!!!
By the way - I don't know if this is construed as advertising - and if it is I apologise - but just to say that if anybody wanted a mock up magazine cover for valentine's day, I will give all you good people on this site a 30% discount. Cheeky I know - but I am trying to pay my debts off, so worth a try!!!!
PM me if you're interested.
PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTS!0 -
i love valentines day. Probably cos i spent my teens wishing someone would take an interest, instead of getting joke cards given to me which was very embarassing
dont i sound like a lamo!
now im with my boyfriend, its different. Last year i got given my first ever flower which i still have, the rose has dried wonderfully. Really looking forward to this one too, i already have a bit of his present for valentines day! ha. This may sound cheap but i got him a black bear with "sexy bear" written on it. It was meant for christmas i presume but it was marked down to £3. Bargain love!0 -
Never have celebrated valentines day...as I don't actually know what it is about..
One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome
Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.
How that relates to pieces of card being sold in shops for £3+ each I'm not sure!
We have been together 16 years and every day is special as long as you have your togetherness, health and happiness0 -
My DH and I gave up buying Valentines cards when one year we met (accidentally!) standing in the card shop, each of us looking fed up trying to find which card was the least expensive and grotty!
So now it is a special meal and the kids go to bed early...!0 -
We have exchanged cards and small presents in the past but I think that I may suggest that we don't do it this year. OH usually buys flowers but nothing fancy, just a standard £2 ir £3 bunch from either the garage or the supermarket. I sometimes bake a cake for him or some biscuits.
We gave up going out for a meal years ago - nobody wants to babysit! It is nice to try and get the children to bed a bit early and eat our meal together alone but that is about as far as it goes. If we are feeling really decadant then we might even open a bottle of wine!!!
We also gave up on anniversary cards a few years ago. Sometimes we try and go out for a meal but it usually falls a few days before or whilst we are on our summer holiday so we often don't even do that.
I do have mixed feelings about it though. It is commercialised and money can definitely be spent on better things.
However, when you have children, everyday can become the same so it is nice to have a day when you can say I don't want to cook/iron or whatever and maybe, if you're lucky be a bit spoilt.
Lets be honest, the odd grand gesture once in a while never did anyone any harm! Its good to say, I love you, I appreciate you and I'm not taking you for granted. However, it doesn't have to be expensive or even cost anything. If my OH got up one day and said "Don't worry, you stay in bed, I'm going to take the children to school and organise the dinner today" it would mean so much more than £75 wasted on a bunch of roses or a bit of card with soppy sentimental impersonal clap trap printed on it.7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0
