Asking for help/advice/opinions and then calling those replies pathetic doesn't make sense and makes you look silly.

You have been given replies from some very expert sellers and buyers.

Ultimately if you send a parcel and it goes missing, you can only claim from one source, Royal Mail or Paypal. Not both. So for items of £46 or less you are covered with standard mail and a cop. If you want to add a 77p delivery service (it's not tracked so is no safer) then so be it. But there is no financial reason why you need to. It comes from your profit.

I asked a question about standard and recorded delivery and just because I choose to send recorded delivery the previous posters automatically think I don't trust anyone on ebay and think eveyone is scammers! Hence pathetic replies. Apparently I attract the wrong buyers even though I have only had 2 INR claims in the 7 years I have been selling and I have sent many items standard 1st or 2nd class without recorded delivery.

Without prolonging a discussion that I feel has run its course I believe the issue has been as you change what you say depending on the argument.

    For instance you said :
I post the majority of items recorded delivery to avoid the dishonest ebayers who put in a false INR claim

but when I queried not trusting people you denied that was the case and stated it was just for peace of mind or to get the item there .

You referred to the dishonest buyers again here:
There is many honest ebayers but there is also alot of dishonest ebayers who want a free item so as a seller I would rather post recorded delivery for higher value items (over £10.00). That way there is no false INR claim, the buyer doesn't get a free item and the seller or RM are not out of pocket. Recorded Delivery rarely goes missing, is it usually items sent standard delivery as there is no proof the buyer received the item.

and also made a sweeping statement that appeared to suggest that there was a high incidence of lost items sent standard- yet you say you have only ever lost 2 items.

None of this makes sense, if you trust buyers you don't need recorded and whilst I do not agree with your assumption that you need to protect yourself against all these false claims I would defend your right to use recorded if that makes you more comfortable. I have absolutely no problems with people who maybe feel they need a little extra protection, but I will try to balance that out for newer sellers who may be reading by saying that losses are rare- and they need to consider whether the huge costs of using recorded are worth it.

My own stats, should nayone be remotely interested, is approx 1 loss per 1000 items sent. I do not use recorded and send everything under £46 standard 2nd class mail or parcel post or airmail. I do use special dleivery for items over £46 in case of loss in the post as I need special to be able to claim from Royal Mail.

Reading too many eBay forums is bad for your health.

I do post a lot of my itms Recorded Delivery but I also use 1st and 2nd class standard (without signature). The reason I have posted many items Recorded Delivery is because Paypal and Ebay don't accept a standard receipt as proof of posting - They would accept a recorded tracking number if the parcel shows it has been delivered. I thought Royal Mail only pay out compensation in stamps for non recorded post (I misread that somewhere and now aware the compensation is the same as recorded delivery) I also post recorded delivery to prove the item has been delivered and to avoid the few scammers who want a free item. That does not mean I think everyone is a scammer. I don't mind if the extra 77p is coming out of my pocket. I am not a business seller and many of my items might be the only one on eBay so I dont need to compete and offer a lower delivery service than other sellers.

Also stating in my listing that I keep all proof of posting does not mean I would expect my buyers to make a claim with Royal Mail if the item was lost in delivery or a troublesome seller as previous posters stated. I have seen it wrote in many listings before I included it at the bottom of my listing and didnt automatically think the seller would expect me to make a claim if the item was lost. By stating that I am assuring buyers that proof of posting can be provided if they don't believe the item was sent. I have had two INR claims in the past 4 weeks so I emailed them the proof of posting to assure them the item was posted, then refunded their payment. I feel this avoids negative feedback from buyers.

If I wrote 'I can not be held responsible for items lost in delivery' then I'd agree it would look like I would expect buyers to put in the claim with Royal Mail.

I have been selling on eBay for over 7 years so I am fully aware of the rules when it comes to INR claims.

I am sure I explained myself in a previous post. I am a buyer as well as a seller on ebay. I can't remember ever having a problem with Royal Mail Recorded delivery as a buyer or a seller but there has been items go missing in delivery when using standard delivery as a seller and a buyer. I am also speaking for friends and family who use ebay for buying and selling, they too have had more problems with standard 1st and 2nd class then Recorded Delivery. Whether the item was lost with Royal Mail or the buyer wanted a free item, who knows. It's just very strange how these missing items vanish and never turn up.

you don't seem to understand or you're just not reading what people are saying. Recorded Delivery is standard mail its treated exactly the same as any other 1st / 2nd class.

I was already aware of that so yes I do understand - thanks. What I said is I and others have had less problems with Recorded Delivery than 1st or 2nd class 'standard' (meaning without a signature).

Then the same applies if your friends are having issues with lost post help them out, look at their listings and see what they are doing differently to the rest of us. It might be something as simple as badly written labels or such like.

I've never had to sign for the few items that I've bought that have come recorded delivery.
