eBay Sellers - delivery options

I tried using only signed for services for a while, but TBH the cost was far higher than the saving in INR claims. Eventually I tried adding a bit in my T&C's (within the listing and also in the annoying little box at the bottom) which said that while orders were normally sent by 1st class or Airmail small packets, I may use a signed for service at my own cost if I deemed it necessary, or words to that effect. Worked like a charm, and INR claims reduced massively.
WRT stating that you always keep proof of posting, that doesn't matter a jot to the buyer, and may make them think that you'd try to make them make a claim for lost goods. Proof of posting means nothing in a dispute, only proof of delivery.0 -
Why would my buyers not trust me? I have been a buyer and seller on ebay for over 7 year. I have 1,000 feedback score and all positive. I have sold alot more than I have bought on ebay which can be seen in my feedback. I also state in my listings that I keep all receipts as proof of postng should a problem arise.
I choose to send recorded delivery and that's my choice. If it avoids a few false claims then I'm happy. Paypal and ebay won't accept a postal receipt as proof of posting but they do accept a recorded tracking number if the item is shown as delivered. I am aware that many post men/women just put a recorded delivery item through a door with a signature but not all will! If that does happen and the buyer is dishonest and wants a free item then so be it. Royal Mail were at fault for posting the item without getting a signature.
now you see
you see that as a positive
to me thats a warning i could have issues with that seller0 -

And can I just ask what you mean by that?
Who do you think claims for the loss?
I am with custardy. Seeing that in a listing tells me you are troublesome and naive.0 -

I.
I agree with the other comments, as a buyer I would see that as a direct threat that you think all we buyers are scammers- maybe that is why you do attract so many lost item claims?

~I agree with all the comments above, I'd see that as a warning, or that you would forward me the proof, for me to deal with.0

Well yous are all narrow minded. There's nothing wrong with stating I keep proof of posting. If a seller states that I wouldn't automatically think if the item was lost that they'd make me deal with the claim.
And the poster above who stated I have so many lost items obviously hasn't read the thread. In the 7 years I've been selling I've had two lost, which were posted this month.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -

Actually you stated earlierNot many recorded delivery items get lost, it's almost always standard 1st and 2nd class.
which implies you have lost recorded items but not as many as non recorded items- which again implies more than two losses. Otherwise how would you base your assumption that you lose more non recorded than recorded items?
As for yoru comment about keeping proof of posting, why exactly do you put it in your auction? Surely if you are a good honest seller, as I'm sure you are why would buyers mistrust you enough not to think you would refund them? Again if no other seller needs to put that, why do you feel that your buyers need that extra re assurance?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Why state it though, if I'm buying I really don't care whether you've covered yourself by keeping your COP, all I want is the item that I've bought.
It wouldn't make me think that I would buy from you above another seller.
It would be more inclined to make me think, you'd expect me to claim, or this seller thinks her buyers are thieves.
As a seller, which is what I am mostly, I keep my COP but that has nothing to do with the buyer.
If an item should get lost or damaged, they won't care whether I can claim from RM, they will want a speedy refund.0 -
Well yous are all narrow minded.
You may think we are narrow minded, but we are all potential customers. 4 in a row all think the same thing.
Out of interest. If you sent me an item and I told you I hadn't received it, and you had sent via normal first class......how long would I wait for a refund and who would claim from RM?0 -

To me that comes across that if something is lost in the post you will give me (the buyer) the proof of postage so I can deal with it myself. You may not agree with that but to me thats how it reads. If that was the case you don't stand a chance, as a buyer if it gets lost I either expect you to send a replacement or a full refund, I won't run around chasing RM.
Like I said earlier using recorded over standard for low-ish value items only benefits the seller and has no impact on the buyer except costing them more. Even if you cover the extra cost yourself buyers won't see it like that, 9 out of 10 will think they should have paid less for the item.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0
