eBay Sellers - delivery options

That's the way I look at it too but for items that retail over £10.00 or more I mainly only offer recorded delivery. If it comes out of my pocket then I don't mind as long as they receive the item and I can track it online to prove delivery plus it avoids getting negative feedback if a buyer claims they never received their item.
?
Which goes back to my original argument really, why sell on ebay at all if you believe everyone is a scammer than you need to protect yourself against?
Every 100 items sent is costing you £77, wouldn't you rather have that money yourself?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Why are people on slating anyone that chooses recorded over normal?
I pretty much post everything recorded, in my recent problem it has proved very helpful.
I have only had one item go missing using signed for, but a number for standard. I have regular customers despite only being a small seller and using recorded post.
Of course I trust my buyers, I don't trust RM and it's not realistic for me to use a courier as my items aren't worth a lot and would up my postage costs. The Fields are Green, The sky is blue, the River Nene goes winding through, The market square is Cobblestoned, It shakes the old dears to their bones, A finer town you'll never see, A finer town they'll never be, Big city lights don't bother me, Northampton Town I'm proud to be!0 -
So your saying Reorded Delivery is pointless as standard delivery insures items against loss up to the same value? I did not know Royal Mail paid the same compensation for standard 1st and 2nd as Recorded Delivery.
Quite a few of my buyers have chose the Recorded Delivery option over standard delivery - Next time I'll ask them why. Maybe it is because they want the item so much they don't want to risk it getting lost in delivery. Not many recorded delivery items get lost, it's almost always standard 1st and 2nd class.
If you are selling quite a few items, it'd be worth doing some research into postal insurance.
And I'm sure that you already know that if buying to resell, you need to register as a business with HMRC.They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -

A parcel is no more or less likely to go missing just because it is recorded. Only special delivery (for personal users) is tracked, so safer and quicker.

perhaps they want proof you sent it and dont trust you.
you come across as quite a naive seller
think about it. recorded delivery proves delivery
well as a buyer, the clue its been delivered is the item is in my hand. I dont need to check the RM site to know it,do I?
how many items have you sold to make statements about "not many" items going missing?0 -

You are still not understanding what recorded mail actually is. It is standard mail- it is not safer than any other standard mail carried by Royal Mail. The only point in using it is if you fear your buyers might make a false claim for item not received.
However since it rarely gets a sig on delivery anyway, I haven't signed for a recorded item now for months and months, it is useless even for that purpose.
As a seller though I urge all my competitors to use recorded, as it greatly assists me in selling my own goods as compared to other sellers I look better value for money.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Only the ill informed buyer chooses to have recorded delivery over standard, at the end of the day what ever postage method is chosen if it doesn't turn up is damaged than the seller has to sort the problem not the buyer!!. Sending recorded delivery only benefits the seller in the way they get a signature for delivery, it has no benefit what so ever for the buyer so why would they spend more??Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
Why would my buyers not trust me? I have been a buyer and seller on ebay for over 7 year. I have 1,000 feedback score and all positive. I have sold alot more than I have bought on ebay which can be seen in my feedback. I also state in my listings that I keep all receipts as proof of postng should a problem arise.
I choose to send recorded delivery and that's my choice. If it avoids a few false claims then I'm happy. Paypal and ebay won't accept a postal receipt as proof of posting but they do accept a recorded tracking number if the item is shown as delivered. I am aware that many post men/women just put a recorded delivery item through a door with a signature but not all will! If that does happen and the buyer is dishonest and wants a free item then so be it. Royal Mail were at fault for posting the item without getting a signature.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0
