I've never had to sign for the few items that I've bought that have come recorded delivery.

A few of the postmen who deliver letters and small packets around my area quite often post recorded delivery through the letter box without a signature, there is postmen that will knock though. If the item is being delivered by van, the postman always requires a signature.

Here is one seller I found who thinks its the buyers responsibility to chase Royal Mail if an item is lost in delivery:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RIVER-ISLAND-BROWN-TAN-HANDBAG-/120767013993?pt=UK_Women_s_Handbags&hash=item1c1e466469
UK ITEMS ARE ALL SENT USING RECORDED POSTAGE WITH SIGNATURE REQUIRED ON ARRIVAL
Please note that if your item is sent proof of post ( EUROPE),all parcels have return address on back & inside parcel & that i will keep receipt on your behalf in case your parcel goes missing. If this happens it is your responsability to pursue the issue with royal mail, ( NOT MINE),I will send your proof of post receipt 1st class recorded if you have not received parcel after 10 to 15 working days after posting , i will offer any assisstance I can but it is up to you to claim your refund through royal mail NOT ME . If you do not accept this notice then please ASK FOR A PRICE FOR TRACKED POSTAGE, this will then be added to invoice for you to choose BEFORE PAYING INVOICE > IT CANNOT BE ALTERED AFTER PAYMENT. ALSO CONFIRMATION OF EXACT POSTAL ADDRESS USING COMMAS TO MARK LINE CHANGES WILL BE REQUIRED BY EMAIL BEFORE I WILL POST ITEM TO YOU.(INVOICE ADDRESS'S ARE NOT ALWAYS CORRECT.)

I am pointing out the fact that there are possibly many sellers that state pointless terms & conditions and think it's the buyers responsibility if an item goes missing in delivery but I am not one of them - as previous posters tried to say!

but its what a buyer draws from your listing, not what you mean

    heres a recent one
I saw the ad and watched it as I had a feeling it would go cheap

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200642262033?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

    it did
I would bet due to this phrase
where its been kicking around the loft
now the seller didnt mean that, but its what the buyer draws from it

Your statement suggests that the buyers are scammers when infact it could be lost due to Royal Mail.

I did check their listings and none have the pointless terms and conditions that I have seen on many listings ie: 'I can not be held responsible for lost items' etc.

Do you deliberately read things wrongly? I particularly mentioned postage labels. If your friends are losing items then start with the basics, silly things like printing proper labels or making sure their handwriting is legible so that items are not sitting in a corner somewhere undeliverable as no one knows where they need to go.

There must be something different in the way your friends package items if they lose things when no one else does.

I take it that you wouldn't post a small item RD, in case the postie im the area you're posting to does the same?

Incorrect! I have posted many small items recorded delivery, ones that fit through a letter box. I have never tracked these items to see if a signature was taken but I take it the items arrived safely since there was no INR claims. Not all postie's will just put the items through a letter box without a signature. There is 3 different posties in my area that deliver letters but only one has been known to post through the door without a signature.

So I see. I must have accidently missed that when I was posting from my phone. Its not as easy reading through posts on a mobile and having to zoom and move the page about than it is from my laptop.

No problem, I have given up with my smart phone as I can only read a bit of a post at a time , or I can have the print so small it looks like dead ants splattered across a blank background.
