There is a known problem opening this account from within online banking. I rang about it today and the blokey just said do it from the main web page instead and everything will get linked OK. I phoned and went into the branch before this though and the staff were all bloody useless. Only the last chap was any good.
They were useless because they have absolutely no access to anything to do with e-Saver accounts.
The reason they pay 3.1% is because there is no face-to-face access.0 -
I use my Santander Zero A/c Debit card.
Generally speaking, people are not using Saving a/c to withdraw money from saving a/c anywaySallySunshine wrote: »Beachnut, that's exactly what happened to me. As I didn't have the card with the numbers required, it then stated if you didn't have a card you could still open the account from Santander.co.uk site. Tried that but still it asked for a card number.
That's why I gave up and rang.0 -
Adindas, not sure I understand your reply.
I have various savings accounts with Santander, 2yr bond and ISA and also easy access savings from branch.
I also have main account with Alliance & Leicester with debit and credit card.
I just thought I'd add e-savings to link accounts and this was actually set up in my local branch, just had a slight problem understanding that my e-saver seemed to be updated to the current 3.1% when I tried to open the new one.0 -
You need a Santander visa debit card to confirm your identity, I'm sure they will ask you some security questions on the phone. Why, I don't know, surely by logging in to online banking you are already confirming who you are.
If you apply from the main web page then they may reset your online banking details, so you will have to wait 10 days before you can log on.
You can access it in branch, as long as you have a current account.0 -
Disgrace IMO, that you can't even open a SAVINGS account without having to provide details of things like employer & salary.
Personally I make it a rule to always lie in those situations, what I earn is none of Santander's business.0 -
If you are an existing A&L account holder using an A&L online account, beware of adding any Santander accounts to this. I did this with a new e-Saver several months ago. The account no. was recognised and added, and I could transfer money in and move funds between accounts. Fine, or so I thought.
Now a few months down the line I need to transfer some money out at short notice-and it refused to let me add new payees. Phoned up and was told that I could not do this and would need to apply for and set up Santander online bankng-despite the fact that they are about to migrate the A&L accounts onto the Santander platform anyway. I was told that if it was urgent I could got to any branch with ID and they would process the withdrawal for me. I tried this at my local branch and of course they unceremoniously showed me the door and refused to help, as they 'cannot handle anything to do with e-accounts'. So I'm having to wait maybe 10 working days to get the Santander online account setup to access the funds.
No such restriction was advised when I registered the account onto the A&L platform. Or, in other words, they're happy to take your money-when you want it back, different rules apply. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I remember at some points when I registered online, they are asking me to link to existing Debit Card, otherwise it would not let us through (or probably have t use another way ?)
I was linking my Santander Zero Debit card for this purpose.

I have already got the eSaver issue 4 - I applied for a 2nd one last night to see if it'll go through - it did no problem!
Under the T&Cs, only 1 per customer. Has anyone else opened multiple eSaver accounts? If I've help in anyway, please remember to thank me :-)0 -

I'd wouldn't risk openeing another eSaver 4 as you might find after a year that you weren't getting 3.1% on both. Or alternatively, you could test teh water with a monthly interest eSaver, so would know after a month.Dagobert0 -
No disadvantage to monthly? I dont know why people would go annual. Esaver will transfer any amounts instantly to a Santander current account it looks like
Also a current account can pay 5% upto 2k I think0
