I always get asked for Proof of ID and proof of address when opening an account at a new bank but for some reason Santander asked me for them even though I'm already a customer last time I tried to open an eSaver online. :(

Maybe it's because you haven't been with them for very long. Was last time the first time you opened an account online? I got asked to send copies of ID by post the first time when I opened my esaver2, but not after that.

When they say you can only have one esaver, does that mean one of I3 and one of I4, or do you have to close the I3?

In April I opened a Cash ISA online at Santander. After them being ridiculously slow and claiming I hadn't sent them any evidence (I had), I opened it in-branch instead (taking my evidence with me). So I've never opened an account online before with Santander. But they should still know who I am, they've seen the evidence already!

Maybe your envelope got lost in the post last time? The branch you went to has seen your ID but the centre that deals with accounts opened online hasn't. Why not just try calling them up, they'll pay for the call, but mention that you've tried to open it online already or else you might end up with 2 esavers.

Anyway don't try to argue sense with Santander! It doesn't work!

It's one 'savings account which supports Faster Payments out too
Is this fairly new? I tried a £1 transfer out on 8th July; it was sent by BACS. (It was the second payment to that destination.)

Am I right in assuming that the first payment to a new destination is always sent by BACS?

supports Faster Payments out - albeit only at £300 per day/per account [So opening additional accounts actually raises your daily limit - the trick is to make payments out from each account held separately to the destination]
Is it £300 per day per eSaver account?

Can you hold more than one eSaver of the same issue?

Can you sent two FPs from two eSaver accounts to one external destination?

    Yes.

Yes. But it's not allowed by the T&Cs so one day you might find that one or all of them have been frozen or closed, or the interest rate has dropped to 0.5%.

    Probably.

Just Opened it this morning, it just took me a few minutes by online application and the account was already appear ...
  • I opened an e-Saver on July 22th, I knew the rate had just dropped from 3% to 2.75% so I assumed it was Issue 3.
However when I rang this evening as I couldn't seem to open Issue 4 online, I was told that I actually already had Issue 4 and that the 2.75% rate had gone up to 3.1%.

    I'm rather confused:(

I have an esaver 3, logged-on and followed the application for an esaver 4 BUT could not go any further than the section that asks you to link the account to an existing santander card since I only have an esaver 3 and that doesn't come with a card either. Tells me to fill out the full application form. Thanks, but I think I'd rather spend my time filling in a form from another bank/b'soc. :(
  • Beachnut, that's exactly what happened to me. As I didn't have the card with the numbers required, it then stated if you didn't have a card you could still open the account from Santander.co.uk site. Tried that but still it asked for a card number.
That's why I gave up and rang.

There is a known problem opening this account from within online banking. I rang about it today and the blokey just said do it from the main web page instead and everything will get linked OK. I phoned and went into the branch before this though and the staff were all bloody useless. Only the last chap was any good.
