Meal planning is my no one strategy for saving money, time and sanity. I love cooking but hate the 'whats or tea' feeling so I monthly plan - based on the freezer contents. I peruse all by fav books and websites or new ideas and jot them down during the month to add to next months planner, buy anything I find on offer/ reduced and use it in the following months planner. I then spend an hour or so writing up the planner and a week by week shopping list for taldi, market and asian shops - then see i I need anything I can get cheaper at the supermarket and sometimes there is nothing which is a great feeling!

Maybe that's my deep dark reason for wanting to be at home more...

To be honest, I'd rather settle for a cup of tea with Bill Bryson.

Thanks, I thought the new thread was going to just be left hanging and everyone was just going to use the new thread here.

I've just remembered an easy moneysaver that I can do now I'm at home more - free ice cubes. I've got a bit of an ice cube habit - I absolutely can't stand drinking water which isn't incredibly cold (I'm the same with white wine - I freeze it till I have a Sauvignon Blanc Slush Puppie) and I have resorted to buying ice cubes in big bags from Tesco for 99p as my solitary ice cube tray couldn't keep up. However, I can now keep refilling it, refreezing it and tipping the cubes into a big bag in the freezer. It's obvious really, but when I'm out at work all day I just can't be a***d to do things like that in the evening.

Apparently my mother craved ice cubes the whole time when she was pregnant with me but not with my brothers, but never bothered with them afterwards! I absolutely love them - I drink the water then crunch up the ice cubes one by one. Refill glass to the top with ice cubes, fill in the gaps with water, drink. Repeat. That's why I need so many.

I take it this is the daily thread with numbers? Martin hasn't issued me with a number to enable me to post here so I won't be joining any exclusive club.

Meal planning is my one downfall - we do so well and save so much money when I do meal plan but I very rarely do it  Must try harder !!

I had ice cube cravings when I was pregnant - I used to eat so many I would be sick and then go straight back to eating them again :o

I will join you if you dont mind ?
Im a retired midwife (due to ill health) and I have four kids who are DS1 (21), DD (19), DS2 (17) and DS3 (15). I worked for many years for the good old NHS for most of working life (since 18) and I think the combination of very unsociable hours, a very stressful working environment and the demands of four kids really took a toll on my health. So Im now at home and beginning to come to terms with my life as it is and have been helped enormously by my friends on MSE (Old Style thread) and my real-life friend who I met through MSE called Mooloo (who also has a thread on Money and Families board).

I will read this thread with interest as I continue to carve out my niche x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
