Hi, I would love to join, I am at home all the time as my Oh is disabled and I am his carer.
Thank you
Welcome! I think your job is the hardest, but most worthwhile, of any I can imagine. I hope we can all get insight into each other's lives and learn from the challenges and successes we experience.0 -
I'm in Manchester - anyone else from this neck of the woods?0

Hello Everyone
Mayi join this thread too? I'm currently a temporary SAHM as I'm on maternity leave, but due to go back in February:( and I don't want too. I was in a previous life a self employed dressmaker and have been looking into starting this again along with teacing a weekly class so I can ditch the full time job. I think joining in here will help me to achieve what I want.

That sounds like a really OS career! I hope it works out for you, as I know from bitter experience that dealing with childcare and a full-time job can be challenging.0 -
Hi all. I gave up work when my first dd was born 13 years ago. I then worked part time when my DD2 went to school. The job was supposed to be a nice 12 hours doing admin at a teacher training school (based at my dd's school) so it sounded great on paper. It was actually a very stressful 25 hours per week and i was for ever taking work home. After 4 years i gave the job up as it just wasn't worth the money (we used to waste the money on meals out etc to cheer me up and this hardly left any salary anyway as it was a low wage anyway).
For the last 3 years (i think it is 3 yrs-i'll have to check) I have stayed at home. I like being here for my dd's when they get home from school (they are 13yrs and 11 yrs) and i don't have to find anyone to look after them if they are poorly or on holiday. I'm not saying staying at home is everyone's cup of tea, but for us it's the right thing to do.
I now have 3 allotments which i tend to in the day and we are virtually self sufficient in veg and hope to be soon in fruit.
The one thing that annoyed me when i first gave up work was that everyone kept asking me what on earth i do with my spare time...as i said on another threat recently, i stopped trying to justify myself after a while and just began saying "i just watch Jeremy Kyle and have a fag" lol:)...it used to shut them up anyway.
I love my life even though money is really tight, but we do save loads as i grow our veg and bake everything from scratch. My dd's don't miss out on anything, though they do sometimes have to wait longer for things than maybe their friends do, but i don't think that's such a bad thing. Sometimes i miss abit of adult company and i did find this hard at first, but the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.
We have had some wonderful times and i have some lovely memories since i've been at home.
So please can i join in with this, thanks0 -

I think that's a great strategy.
I'm going to say 'I'm either busy in bed with a toyboy or recovering afterwards on the sofa with a gin and tonic...'
Any more ideas?0 -
I live on the Worcester/Hereford border but from Manchester originally.
I meal plan but have only been following my plan for the past 3 weeks but already my shopping expenses have reduced considerably. This week my shopping bill came in at £23.17, last week was £15.90, the previous week it was NIL. The reason I decided to do the plan was because I couldnt stuff anythiing else into the chest freezer but could never actually find anything to eat. So my eldest son and I sat down 1 afternoon and emptied the entire lot and made a list of everything we had, same with the cupboards and the fridge. Ive managed to make a 12 week meal plan from what Ive got and so far its going well. On my plan I have allowed the odd take away now and again but its not once or twice a week as it used to be and we also have a "make your own" night every week so the kids can eat snacky noodles, something on toast if they wish (this gives me a night off from cooking) The hardest thing I find is remembering to take stuff out the freezer haha but I think im getting the hang of it now.Sealed Pot Challenge member #982
In 2012 I pledge to:- Save £1 a day, meal plan, be more organised, have NSDs, set myself a budget AND STICK TO IT, throw all loose change into Sealed Pot and not open it till 29th November.:money:0 -
