I'm resigned to the house isnt going to be quite "up to my standard" until I eventually retire (ie not on top of having to do a full-time job) - but you've given me an idea for then Squeaky - ie a "tweak" to the system that I think would work for me (and maybe for others).
If I divide my income then by £12 net per hour (equivalent) for instance and think "Right - how many times does £12 go into my weekly income?" and, for the sake of argument, it was £120 think "That means I'm being paid enough income to do 10 hours housework per week". So - I'll "pay myself" with that income to be my own Mrs Mop for 10 hours per week and, as I know I'm paying myself a reasonable income then I should reverse the old phrase and "Give a fair days work for a fair days pay" - as I wouldnt want to cheat my employer (ie myself).
Well - as I said - I think it will work for me and my income will be enough to "buy" a sufficient amount of time to get the housework done (even including O.S. things like preserving and making all sorts of food from scratch).0 -
Please can I join too???
I took early retirement from work on health grounds about 6 years ago (When I was only 28!). Suffered with mental health problems. Doing great now and am a voluntary worker, which I love
I have 2 children 15 and 8 and my OH, he works away offshore so I am often on my own in the house with the children to organise:)
I have some physical health issues now but won't bore you all with all of that.
I've been a member here for a while but don;t often post:o

Today I have to go and clean my daughters house, ready for new tenants, we've had to decorate it from top to bottom. So haven't really done anything else for the last 10 days. Or the few hundred before it.
I'm hoping that I can get it finished today & then will start on my lists for my house tomorrow.
Bucketing down in Devon today.
I am going to do my own dishes first though so that's one job crossed off for the day. Maybe I'll be a little more motivated if the kitchen doesn't look like a bombs gone off in it.
There's some very good ideas on how to sort our time on here.0 -
Yeah, hooray, I've read the whole thread.
I'd like to say thanks to everyone who's posted, I forgot as I went along, sorry.
I've scrawled out a couple pages of lists, things to do daily & a bit of a schedule. Hopefully that will focus me a little.
Several others have said that when you have all day, things get put off until you run out of time. That is a huge problem of mine.
The only person who ever comes to my house is my Mum once a week, so the other 6 1/2 days I just slump & thread hop.
Motivation that is what is so difficult.
First thing tomorrow is getting dressed, into dog walking gear, get out with the dog early, without opening the laptop.
Maybe, just maybe I'll be able to get some things done.
Night all & I hope everyone has a fruitful day tomorrow.
I have to do that... NOT switch on the laptop till I've actually done something useful else my day just drifts away.
Today I got up and showered at the same time as my OH & DD like I have made myself do all this week and got the floors swept, D/w emptied, kitchen tidied, been to town to pick up passport forms and walked home the long way (4 miles) so I've already done some exercise. Been on the laptop for about an hour so must now leave well alone and get on with some other jobs that need doing.. ordering repeat prescriptions, booking sight test, 20 mins on cross trainer, bathroom cleaned for weekend, and dusted everywhere.Grocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)
Grocery challenge November : £291.65/300.00 NSD 10
Grocery challenge December : £0/240.00 NSD0 -

Hello and welcome  It's great to meet so many people with different experiences.
I finished my temporary teaching contract today and can't decided if I'm happy or sad. I'm so relieved to have some time to sort out the house (and myself) but it's quite scary too, to not have anything lined up. I've just applied to do online exam marking which would be fantastic - apparently it's quite well-paidbut you can do it all at home and at a time to suit you. That would fit in really well with my need to have more time at home but also give me a bit of money and mental stimulation.
We're very quiet today - are you all being very good and doing homestyling instead of being on the internet??!!0 -
Can I join please - I did post earlier but I think it was the last one on the page so I 'fell off' if you see what I mean. I've been a SAHM for about 15 years now and I'm still rubbish at doing all the domestic stuff. I struggled for a long time to accept being at home and i still feel very ambivalent about my role. I have worked part time in the past but we live abroad and we have moved a couple of times so the opportunities are less and you need someone at home to support the family through the changes.
I shall be doing a lot of home making as we are having renovations done and I'll be painting and decorating and cleaning a lot.
Great to meet you! There's a few of us around here feeling VERY ambivalent about being 'just' a homemaker and lots of us who are rubbish housewives!!! Where do you live?0 -
I have joined the new forum and I agree it's much easier on the eye now.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

I'm in Switzerland, which is a funny old place really and can sometimes really do your head in. I'm not entirely convinced I like it here yet, although it is fantastic for some things.
I too joined the other forum with the same user name but I don't think I'm allowed to post yet so haven't introduced myself.Trying to keep in budget.

I think we've all gone over to the other forum.
Hopefully you can take some time for yourself to recover before embarking on something else.0 -
