Have to be careful about writing on this thread as I also write on the daily thread and I worry about repeating myself (yes, I'm getting to that stage anyway). I do know where all you ex-teachers are coming from. I was fortunate enough to start my career at a time when teachers were still considered to be professionals and to be trusted to educate the whole child and not just get them to jump through hoops and tick boxes. To me teaching was satisfying and fun. When the government started dabbling in education everything changed and stress levels went through the roof for experienced teachers who were still trying to teach and also satisfy the authorities'
lust for endless paperwork. I couldn't wait to retire. The same for my brother who was a headmaster and once said that he would teach even if they didn't pay him, he loved it so much. He took early retirement on medical advice. And my sister-in-law,one of the most dedicated teachers I knew, got out at the same time.
Rant over and right off message. Sorry, but my heart goes out to juliapenguin and others who are battling to readjust to life at home. Honestly, enjoy every minute of the freedom of choice you now have. The freedom to say 'NO' to the things that stress you and the chance to find other things that you never dreamed of doing before. A huge adventure is waiting for you if you just step out there and find it.
I promise that next time I post I will stick to interesting hobbies and MSE matters. Still I've got that off my considerable chest!I believe that friends are quiet angels

OOh, can I come along to this thread too please?
I'm a retired primary HT - couldn't wait for the pension to kick in as couldn't afford to go early. Teaching used to be such a joy...not a stressful drag. Things have definitely changes and not for the better as the years have gone on.
Now, I love being at home more and am trying to make time for all the cooking, knitting, sewing and general homemaking that I felt had to go over the years. less money, definitely, but so much more satisfaction! Hope you'll let me stay!Resolution:

Hello to you and to cocoribbon and 2boysmum - plus anyone I've missed!

On here we have to keep on-topic ie how we feel about being at home in a world which expects women to do it all and have it all when some of us just CAN'T - or don't want it all. This is where we can celebrate homemaking and be proud of what we do, even those who are single or who haven't got children at home!0 -
I feel completely wiped out today
I was the examiner in some horrible English as a Foreign Language speaking exams all morning - the poor students were so nervous and I felt so sorry for them.
Then this afternoon I had to go for an induction session at the other school who have taken me on as a supply teacher - I had to fill in three million forms and they've told me that I can't wear my work trousers as they are apparently denim. To me they are black trousers not jeans, but they break the rules  I've gained so much weight recently (stress) and I'm really tall so it's tricky finding long enough trousers in bigger sizes - M and S only do long length up to size 18 and Long Tall Sally don't fit me either. I'll have to buy some online, which I hate.
I may only get a couple of days work a month, but at least it will avoid me having a big gap on my CV for when I'm well enough to get a 'proper' job.
As you can see, I have real conflict about whether to decide to stay at home or not. What I really want is a job 10 hours teaching a week or less, but it's not happening yet.
So I've been out all day, and feel really stressed out - I definitely need to have at least half of each day at home at the moment. I've got another horrible day tomorrow, being a speaking examiner in the morning then lovely but dimwit private student in the afternoon, then marking essays at a school all Friday. I can't wait for next week when all I'll have is two two hour sessions with the nice but dim student.

I have been inspired y this thread (and the choas that descended witht he school holidays) to get myslef a bit more organised so have printed off lots of sheets from the organized home site and am starting a household book - will do a freezer and cupboard inventory, get on top of my to do list and groceries shopping.
Working in Education sept always feels like a mini 'New Year' so i am determined to start this one efficient and organised!
I also think once dd is at school (starting this sept) I will try and get enough flexi to have 1 morning a month at home with everyone else out and occupied just to catch up on filing, jobs etc. I never have time just to get on with stuff as I'm either working or with the family so think just a few well spent hours will help.People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Thanks for your suggestions,I love sewing and have dusted off my sewing machine.Cooking for daughter is out as she's a good cook herself, she's never in much when she's at home as she has a job and goes out with friends.I worked as a nursing sister and worked to bring up daughter as I divorced when she was 4.I,m getting in to being at home more now and enjoying having more time.My only problem is mobilty,I can't drive anymore and can't do much walking as I'm in constant pain, but I always seem to be doing something and have got into old style a lot more. It's a treat when daughter comes home as she can drive and we go hunting bargains.Weight loss start 11 st 7lbs

Working today, but finished for the week now, just 3 days next week to work then I'm finished for good, I'm so looking forward to it. Was chatting to a few colleaguse today and got a few " you'll get bored" and "what will you do with yourself all day" comments but apart from them everyone else has been really positive, well except for my sister but I usually choose to ignore her anyway!
DH has given me some gentle hints regarding small jobs that need doing but we haven't had a chance to do, so looks like I'll have my hands full for a while.
Plan of action is to do a major tidy up first, then concentrate on cleaning and de-cluttering a room at a time, hopefully finding some goodies to list on e-bay.0 -

I can't believe how quickly my OH is getting used to the idea of not lifting a finger in the house
Like you, I'm new to the full-time homemaking thing - I finish on Friday this week, as that's the end of my supply teaching contract and apparently they won't need anyone for at least three to four weeks at either school I'm registered with, as student numbers are low and permanent staff have to cover for anyone who is ill.
So I'll also be doing lots of decluttering and cleaning - I've got two weeks before we go away on holiday and I want to get loads done so it will be nice when I get back. I normally have no time for tidying up before a holiday and it really gets me down to come back to a cluttery pigsty.
I don't think I've got anything for ebay, but you never know.0 -
please come back those who signed up but didnt return. The colour has now changed easier on the eyes.
I've signed up too red devil. Right logging off now as I go on holiday tomorrow and still need to pack and clean the house.1 debt v's 100 days chapter 34: T3sco bank CC £250/£525.24 47.59%
