I don't think I own an item of clothing that I've had full price new, at least aside from undies. 99% of my stuff comes from charity shops, which are great here in Australia, much cheaper than england. The most I ever pay here for a top is the equivalent of 2 pounds.

Though I have to say I chuckled some at the ladies who say larger sizes are available anywhere... assuming that a DD cup is a large size!! DD cup is no longer considered a large size, most retailers even go up as far as an F cup now. I'm a 34H and finding that cheaply or on a sale rail is as likely as my lotto numbers coming up :rotfl:

I love shopping in charity shops. Being 41 I don't follow fashion (to be honest I never have) but I love unusual clothes and quite often find great things in my local Salvation Army shop. Bras are difficult for me as I'm a 36DD and also had a mastectomy on one side so I can't wear underwired ones anymore. I've found the only ones that fit and give me some shape are Playtex Cross Your Heart and they cost me £20 in Contessa - however I did find some for sale in Matalan at £14 so I stocked up then.

I don't think you can get better childrens clothes than Primark. I bought DD some beautiful winter fleeces in there for £2 each and some hooded sparkly fleeces with fake fur around the hood for £4. Socks at £1.50 for 3 pairs. She's a funny fit for trousers so I hit Adams sale for that using my Nectar points.

I'm not a strong follower of fashion either (even at 27!!!). I mostly shop between Asda, Matalan, Primark, MK1. Asda is good for underwear and MK1 do good jeans although admittedly I always wait till they have slashed the price to about £12 and even then I think that's expensive :o

Other than that, I buy from charity shops, ebay or car boot sales, depending on what's available and what I'm looking for. I don't set out to buy second-hand clothes but will have a scan while I'm passing through the shop for example. I bought a great pair of Moto (Topshop) jeans in the charity shop only yesterday for £3.75. They were identical to the pair I bought in the same shop about 8 weeks ago so I couldn't refuse them (...probably owned by the same person orignally!). Plus I'm only small height-wise so it's very rare to find pants that don't need taking up! I now have two great pairs of jeans that cost me less than £8 in total! :T

Some of my clothes come from my brothers girlfriend. She buys for the sake of buying most of the time so I get a lot of her high-street cast-offs, most of which have usually never been worn and still have tags attached! She bundles them all into a bag and we have a rummage and take what we want!
  • This year, I'm also looking at making my own clothes, I bought one of those JML sewing machines to see if I like it.

I've found this great site that does vintage designs. not sure how much cheaper it will be but could be a great new hobbie.

I love my fashion, but am mostly a jeans and tops girl if I'm not working.

I mainly shop in Primark and George at Asda (or George High Street)... I buy my trousers/jeans from Dorothy Perkins mainly as I have a 35 inch inside leg... so have to get the 36 inch ones... I find Long Tall Sally hideously overpriced, although invested in a nice, tailored suit from there for job interviews, as it was about £100, very classic and just nice overall. Sometimes I shop in H&M and charity shops, as well as rooting out bargains in M&S and on some of the 2nd hand communities on Livejournal and of course Ebay. I love swapping clothes with my friends too :)

    I'm 24 by the way!

As a larmy peer, I too prefer my own style. Fashions are irrelevant. Want I want is clothes that fit, comfy and flattering in a colour that suits!

I buy them when needed, from a variety of places. Primark are great for tops, socks and night wear. I usually have things on my wish list for Christmas, and got lovely silk socks this year for my cold feet!

I spend most on shoes, not that I am a shoe lover, just that I dont take short cuts with shoes!

I used to wonder when I was younger, why old people wore such dated clothes at weddings, you know, the suits from the 60's and 70's ....now I know!

If I need to buy for a wedding or a posh do, I shall try to make it as classic as poss and in an unfashionable colour knowing that it will last about 30 years worth of posh nights out!!!
  • Well I am sloppy at home, rather overwieght at the moment so usually joggers and jumper. Uniform for work. I do like to get dressed up if I am going anywhere though. We have a shop in the next town that sell designer labels inexpensivley and that's where I go if I want somthing nice, or ocasionally Bon Marche for cheap and cheerful, but the quality is a bit random. Undies from M&S you can't beat them. I have had some good finds from charity shops in the past but mainly for my petite daughter who doesn't seem to mind

I never begrudge or receiving second hand clothes, if they are still in good condition, nothing that a good wash wont hurt.

I often nosey around car boots. Not only for myself but my kids too.
I once had a lovely boys Regatta Waterproof coat for my son, cost a £. Would have easily cosy at least £30. It lasted him 2yrs, before he lost it! As for my DD, I kitted her out, with next clothing from a car boot. Jeans, jumpers tops, etc - enough clothes to last 2weeks without washing (if you know what I mean) for £5.

I know people who have children older than mine, and ask me whether I would mind if they pass clothes on. Would I mind! Bring it on.

What doesn't get used, I pass on to others.

My mum works in a posh part of Derbyshire, and often goes to local charity shops there. You tend to get good quality clothes in the posher area's (she thinks) hardly worn and brand names also.

I'm in my 30's, and for work, I wear mix n match tops, with black trousers. Usually you just find me in jeans rest of the time. Or lazy days like today, Im in very old jogging bottoms and old t-shirt (as Im having a break from the housework).

When I first started seeing my OH 3yrs ago, he wouldn't think twice about walking into Burtons or Next and spending £40 on a pair of jeans. I used to say, "HOW MUCH" "THAT WOULD SEE ME & THE KIDS AT LEAST 2WKS OF FOOD SHOPPING" that comment has stuck with him, and Ive now turned him into bargain hunting at car boots and he has changed his opinions about shopping for 2nd hand goods now.

Never say never is my motto when it comes to saving money on clothes.

I've had a look in charity shops but never seem to find any clothes I want to buy. I've bought a couple of handbags though. I wouldn't buy second hand shoes or underwear. One thing I did notice is that some of the charity shop prices are higher than Primark and Matalan. My neighbour says that children's stuff is cheaper in some of the chain stores rather than the charity ones.

I'm 28, fashion as such doesn't interest me much. Comfortable and suitable for my lifestyle matters the most. Light colours with 2 boys and 2 dogs just doesn't work. Bras are my biggest expense £36-£45 usually, as I too can only go to specialist stores, I will keep an eye on that site posted, we don't have a store near me but will keep looking. I did find an outlet shop in Blackpool, which I am going to go to again this year when we are on holiday as the bras there were £16 in my size :) . I do repair them when possible rather than replacing, those links will come in handy for help with that.

Clothes I buy in charity shops, eBay bargains, Tescos sale, Evans sale, think that is the only places I bought from last year. I won't pay more than £10 for a top or pair of trousers/jeans. £15 for shoes or boots.

Clothes for the kids, same really Tescos and ASDA sales, charity shop where I usually find brand new items with tags on for very little, Primark occasionally but it's a trail, and more recently Adams sale with Nectar vouchers. School shoes the most expensive for the DSs which come from Clarks or Start Rite, but I save enough on the others to not be as bothered.

DP is tricky to buy for, he's very tall, usually over the internet for his, have found some cheap sites over the last year, big Tshirts from ASDA if they have any, much cheaper than High and Mighty where I used to buy all his clothes. Trainers usually imported size too, 14s are tricky to find in shops.

I won't buy or use second hand underwear or shoes, for me or the family. My last pair of jeans lasted almost 2 years just replaced them this week with a brand new pair from eBay delivered, in my size for £6.

Problem I have is dinky legs, and everything gets ruined on the bottoms so thinking of trying to get a sewing machine so I can alter them properly as Mum no longer has the time.
One day I might be more organised...........
