Old Stylers - What is your fashion??

Options
At the ripe old age of ahem early fifty something, I no longer am into fashion, and while I don't like to look too frumpy am quite happy with clothes that are comfy and serviceable.

This is where my local charity shop comes in. They have a pound rail and I get some really lovely clothes from it. This week I got a brand new (with tags) BHS jacket, suitable for slightly wet weather and a really weatherproof jacket for downpours etc. Also two extremely nice tops, one by Maine and another by Per Una I think it was. Both in lovely condition.

My smalls tend to come from Primark (cheap as chips) but I do have to buy good bras being a bit top heavy (no implants needed here). Can anyone suggest any good online sites for minimiser bras, that would be cheaper than the shops. I paid £20 for M&S.

Anyway enough about me. Care to share how you clothe yourself, keeping old style in mind - or even if you find the thought of second hand clothes horrible. I don't. Just love the thought that someone paid the full price and along I come and snap it up for peanuts.:)

ps They often put the larger sizes 24+ on these rails and if they are nice and fashionable I buy them and sell them on ebay, not for much, but it all helps!

  • Oh cheaper bras for larger cup sizes would be excellent!

I buy clothes from H&M, peacocks, primark & the sales.

I go in charity shops but as yet haven't found any decent clothing. Think it must depend on where you live & also luck

My two most favourite tops in the world came from a charity shop. Identical but for colour, they don't need ironing and they are long so they cover the bulges ;)

I like comfy over stylish any day and my fave non charity shop is Millets :D Peter Storm clothing is my thing - not always cheap, but sometimes good bargains in the sales. Great for practical, sensible kids clothes too.

I've just found my perfect bra on this site http://www.figleaves.com/uk/home_v15.asp

£12 for a Sloggi underwired job in my awkward size (38A) -bought 3. First bra I've had that hasn't been uncomfortable - it's been a long wait. Very good service.

Asda do cheap bras in bigger sizes, I've also had some really good ones from Matalan. I have M+S ones too and have found the ones from the cheaper shops to be just as good and sometimes better.

I bought a cheap bra from Primark in my size and have it on now. It makes me look really droopy. Must chuck it out - does nothing for me!:)

still quite young(ish) (32) and have shopped in charity shops since i was about 16. Mostly because I like quirky clothes, nowadays because the older clothes and sizing are more likely to fit me - I am quite a small size (6).
Find swapping clothes with my little sister (31) and my mum (58) works well as its a three way thing that way. (though if someone could stretch their leg a wee bit it wold be greatly appreciated)
Have to admit my sister is a bit of a fashion queen and dresses very well and for very little off ebay.
I struggle to find nice underwear and I have a average/small bust but its the one thing I won't compromise on because I like feeling good under whatever I am wearing on top.
Brastop.com used to be good for larger size bras and can be not badly priced.

I think Jordan has launched her new bras range in Asda which are for larger sizes. Not sure on the price as I havent been for a while but being at Asda im sure they wont be expensive. I tend to buy a lot of clothes at George Asda, they was my life saver for maternity clothes last year when everything else was so expensive

I'm 32. I shop for clothes in charity shops all the time. I too have found some amazing bargains - who cares (or knows?!) if they're this years range?

A few months ago I picked up 6 bin bags of clothes through freecycle - most the women's clothes were my size (10) and all the mens stuff was my boyfriends size!!! There were makes like Falmer, Next, BHS, Papaya, Burton. I was gobsmacked! And all the stuff that didn't fit or we didn't like went back to a charity shop.

I also get clothes at TKMaxx - I got a Quiksilver Roxy skirt for £1 in there last summer!!! They normally cost £30-£50.

In fact I can't remember when I bought full-price clothes - I always shop in the sales too! or from Ebay :D
  • I have started a new job about 3 months ago, and in the last week my dept has now changed to reporting to our MD - so i'm thinking it might be time to buy a suit which fits (old is a bit tight) and be taken seriously (currently wear smart slacks and verious tops from Dewhirsts [they're a manufacturer for M&S, overrun is sold off cheap]) cos the business is up for sale, and so job is at risk...

I'm a fairly big bra size, 34G, and buy from https://www.bravissimo.co.uk in their Newcastle shop. But obviously pay full whack, and at £45 a throw (inc pretty knickers, cos they give me confidence at meetings) its not very MS. Have also bought a shirt from there, best buy I ever made, as for once it actually fitted. Though at £39 a pop I'd wait til payday...

I'm going to look at the new George range at Asda (works bonus was £30 asda card) this week - will post as to the quality and range of the new larger sizes for all my well endowed OS friends!

I've always found Tesco, Matalan and Asda to be excellent for clothes. Occasionally (as am v petite at 5') buy jeans from TopShop, but are never more than £30 and have thus far have been of excellent quality.

Should probably mention that I'm 22, and so by no means a fuddy-duddy in fashion. It is definately possible to be OS and stylish on a budget. It just requires imagination!

    Much love

I am 31 but apparently look about 23 and most of my clothes are charity shop or donated by kind relatives!!! I hoard clothes for years so can always put together something different that people have forgotten about;)

The one thing I won't skimp on is bras as its false economy...there is no substitute for an M&S bra and the knickers last for YEARS too. I learned a long time ago that a cheapie Primark bra goes out of shape REALLY quickly.
