Did anyone Used to Get Smacked as a Child?

I don't ever recall being smacked as a child, neither have I ever smacked any of my 3 children. Nor will I.
I cant even contemplate how anyone can deliberately want to inflict pain on their child, which is basically what a smack is, I find that completely incomprehensible.0 -
Who said that then? You are misquoting me. What I actually said was ''We are reaping the benefits of the softly softly parenting approach''. However, if they thought they might be in for a good thrashing if they were escorted home by the coppers, it might put them off of following a life of crime.
I agree it shouldn't need to involve violence, and smacking was never the first option of punishment in our house as kids, it was if nothing else worked.
This has never made me want to strike out in anger at anyone, and myself nor my siblings have never been involved in any violent acts/crimes or joined a riot.
These little hood rats, I doubt it is their first meandor into the life of crime. Their parents had probaby seen this coming with the friends they hang out with, the hours they keep, their general attitude, etc - but cant be a*rsed to do something.
I would think that a great number of the children and youths involved in the recent disturbances may well have been subjected to 'a good thrashing' which is why violence is not seen as such a great deal.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Violence is one thing, but most of these little mugs were just out for stealing something
Think the point ska is trying to make is most people who were smacked as children do not go on to live a life of crime. Its no excuse. You are the person you choose to be. No point whinging,''oh my parents slapped me when i was a kid'' so it gives me a free pass to do whatever I like. With love, POSR0 -
Yes I was smacked as a child. It did me no harm and Ive turned into a good person (I hope
) it did no harm to my siblings either and we havent been in trouble with the law at all. I will smack my children if I deem it necessary.
I think this is the problem with society today and why we have so many trouble making teens because there is a big lack of discipline because parents are scared to do anything incase they get in trouble.:j0 -

Yet again someone is confusing discipline and smacking. They are not the same and a child can be disciplined without being smacked.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I know someone who encourages their children to hit each other or guests if they are 'being naughty' but to my knowledge do not actually smack their children themselves. They are all under 10 but it's a bizarre way to get your children to deal with things.0

I got smacked as did my sister only when we were really naughty and we never repeated the same mistakes, doesn't faze me and just see it as part of family life...no mental scars or anything
Funnily enough though i have not smacked my son now 9 but have felt like it a few times.0 -

Completely agree with this!Give me the boy until he's seven and i'll give you the man.0 -
I was hit as a child but have never hit my own ds despite feeling the urge at times. I don't really do punishment at all but that may be down to only having the one and his personality, he can't bear shouting even. We usually just discuss things when anything goes a bit wrong and talk about ways we can avoid the same situation happening again.
I do understand the impulse to hit so don't judge anyone who does but I am so glad I managed not to.
Countries as varied as Sweden, Venezuela and South Sudan have made hitting children illegal, Sweden since 1979, with no increase in crime and disorder.
To me discipline is about knowing what is acceptable behaviour and what is right, you don't need to hit a child to teach them that.0 -
