Trying for a Baby Part 7

Right ladies, just after some quick help.
I'm not expecting to ov yet as only on CD2, but I just did an Ov stick to make sure I knew what to look for and...I can see the control line and a very faint second line.
The pack says that that is a negative, but am I looking for 2 lines that are the same darkness? or the 'test' line to be darker than the 'control' line?
Why does a second line appear if you're not ov'ing. Is that just to make it more complicated for us?!
Hi lilymay - I think it's because the LH hormone (which the sticks test for) is always present to a certain degree, what you are looking for is the hormone surge which indicates OV will happen. When the test line is as dark as, or darker than, the control line, that's when the surge has been detected. After the surge you should usually ovulate within 12 - 36 hours.
(someone who knows more pleeeaaaaase correct me if I've just made that all up)
This link is quite useful I think http://www.peeonastick.com/opkfaq.html#30 -
Thank you MrsJ! - I tried to find out on good old google, but nowhere was clear.
Kittenpie just posted on the m/c support thread and I feel so 5h1t for her. It's brought it all back for me. I just want to give her a big hug14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130 -
I've forgotten my manners and not welcomed newbies! Welcome
Sorry I can't remember all the new names... but I will get there in the end. It's lovely to have you here and I hope you will have a short and sweet stay and enjoying hanging out with us on the way to your BFP!0 -
cupid - have a look at the link I posted above for lilymay about the ov sticks.
First thing in the morning is no good for OV sticks. The advice is to test between about 11am and 7pm (or thereabouts), and to minimise fluid intake for a couple of hours before you test - so your wee is not diluted.0 -
2b - good to see you popping on to say hi.
It's good to hear of positive stories of ladies in their 30's. If we were lucky enough to catch next OV I'd be 32 when 1st baby was born so realistically I'd be at least 34/35 by no 2 - and we want 3! I do think it's become much more of a norm now. Only 2 girls from my (all girls) school year of 120 had babies before 28/29/30. Even now, I'd say ag good 60% still haven't. I think it takes longer to meet the right man these days. I know I was too focused on my career in my 20's and had prioritised a lot of things over relationships.
QQ - Everything crossed here too for the transfer.0 -
Mogwai - I think on my opks it doesnt say anything about holding your wee, just limit fluid intake for 2 hours before. Which I guess means you then wouldnt have to pee.
Infact, sometimes I could pee, because Id be bursting, and then err pee a bit more to do the test lol, and Id get a positive result with that. I found if I got a positive, it was a positive however I did it.
Im not good at drinking enough though. Perhaps you are better at getting enough fluids than me?
do you take your temperature? You could try that instead?
Thanks Claire - I do drink loads of water even when Im not trying as I get really thirsty, so maybe thats part of the reason I find it hard to get a positive. I do take my temps, and its still low today, if the almost positive was a positive it means I should see a shift tomorrow fx, will try to BD tonight..
maybe my LH never quite reaches the test level but its enough to induce ovulation - Ive had my 21 day test which shows that I am ovulating, so maybe best thing to do for me is to watch for EWCM and then BD every day til temp shift...
Im 32 and while I do feel a little older (ie more tired, :rotfl:) I dont regret waiting to have children. I do feel like I will have more to give and teach my future children than if Id had them in my early/mid twenties.. I just hope that nature doesnt throw a spanner in the works
Every now and then I do feel a bit panicked when I read about how women over 30 find it harder to concieve but then I think about how women around me are having children at all sorts of ages, inc a few in their 40s, and then I think, pish, Ive got plenty of time! Its a bit of an emotional rollercoaster isn't it? I want 3 (fx)We got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic.

My sister gave birth to her first child in November, at the age of 32 (she's since turned 33). They also plan on having more children. My SIL was 33 when she gave birth to her first child in August last year. Again, they are planning more. And my Mum had me, her youngest child, at age 35. So I don't think there's anything to worry about.
In addition to that, I seem to have so many friends at the moment who are either expecting or recently given birth. Their ages range from 29-35, so it has become very, very common. I do have friends who had children earlier, of course, but not as many as those who have left it a little later.
I don't know about anyone else, but a lot of the issue with the age thing is internal with me. Mostly because I always had the 'lifeplan' in my head, you know? I wanted, and fully expected, to settle down and start a family before I was 25 but it just didn't work out that way.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Definitely agree about the lifeplan euronorris. The silly thing (for me) is that if you'd asked me 10 years ago I couldn't have said what my lifeplan was, or even that I had one. I just know that now, I feel I've missed it.
I'm starting to hate my job, and I'm probably going to be made redundant soon anyway, but I'm too scared to leave as I need the maternity leave. I just feel like 'is this it.... is this all my life's going to amount to?'
I think my main problem, if I'm honest, is that I'm a massive control freak and perfectionist and I hate that I can't do something that everyone else can. It brings out my competitive side!
I realise that I now sound like even more of a nutter! Am not doing myself any favours on here today lol.0 -
