So if we get rejected from 1st choice school can we ring that school and say the magic words "under the freedom of information act" please tell me the lowest score accepted obviously without special circumstances and they will give us it. Is that right???

Yes that is correct. You may get some waffle but they cannot refuse the information. One very important point though the request has to be in writing (under the terms of the act). But that specifically means requests by email, fax, letter or any form of written request. They could refuse a telephone request! A few months ago AQE were refusing to supply raw scores from requests made by email ( I think to discourage people). They were wrong to request a request by letter as the Freedom of Information Act specifies any written request.

In my experience last year, a quick phone call to the school which has rejected your child and they will tell you the lowest score they accepted. I know many other parents who rang various schools and all were told the lowest scores accepted and at what score criteria were applied. Strathearn very helpfully posted the info on their website promptly. It would be helpful if all schools would do this or better still, if AQE would post all the lowest scores accepted for AQE schools on their website and GL did the same for all GL schools.

Long time lurker on this thread and just wanted to say thank you to everyone for helping to keep me sane.
It has been a very stressful year but thankfully nearly over. All the advice given here has been really useful and it really helped to see others having the same worries as me.
My last time going through this process and I am very relieved.
Good luck to everyone for tomorrow and if you have to do in again in the future I hope they have the system sorted better by then.
