Is that not a bit nasty. The card currently looks the same as any other, but the new card has BASIC plastered all over it, are they trying to embaress people into getting a paid account?

Yes name and shame all the people with adverse credit histories :rotfl:
  • I'm disgusted with this.

Got my letter last week telling me I'm restricted as to where I can withdraw MY money. I'm a stay at home Mum to 2 young children aged 5 and 1. My husband is in the Forces. My husband transfers money to my account every month so I can run the house, it's what works for us and that's how we manage our money. I immediately called Natwest to complain about the letter, I can't be restricted where I withdraw my money, especially with 2 young children. Their response was to upgrade to the next level of bank account which would mean a new card with a new long number (which would mean changing my paypal, iTunes, Amazon, Tesco etc etc details). So I said no. Other option was to get a normal bank account with a monthly fee, but I wouldn't pass the credit check as I'm not working. Then the advisor had the cheek to tell me I should have a joint account anyway as I'm married! Smarty pants :T

To be honest, I really wouldn't mind if there was a small fee to use a rival cash machine - then at least I know I could access my cash if there was an emergency. But it's the fact that i CAN'T use a rival atm at all!

I'm so furious. All other banks seem to be following suit as I've called around looking for an alternative account.

You can pay £8.00 per month for a select silver account then you can use all ATMs.

Have you thought about a Barclays cash account?

Open a First Reserve savings account. The card that comes with can be used anywhere.

That's exciting on an RBS thread.

Sorry. I felt the discussion had moved to more of a general one about basic bank accounts so I thought it was relevant.

Hi, just found this thread on googling the subject. I have received a new debit card today from NatWest telling me that I can only now use it in selected ATMs (as previously discussed in this thread). What puzzles me is that while my account is "basic", with no overdraft and no cheque book, it is not "free". I pay £6.95 every month for an "Advantage Blue" account and have done since the account was opened. I am really puzzled now and quite a bit cross.

Natwest and RBS!! If by any chance that you are reading this, you are making everybody's life difficult with the removal of being able to use other ATM cash machines. It is so unfair and so counter-productive and you should not be punishing the people that have been a customer of yours for years and then have the cheek to try and get me to spend £8 a month to upgrade my account to a silver account.

Trying to separate the poor from the rich, you should be ashamed of yourselves!!!

How is it going to be counter-productive for you? well, you say that you want to keep the money in the bank's group instead of giving it to other banks.. Well I enjoyed taking all my money out of my bank account today, I'd rather keep the cash with me and be-able to use it than keep it in your bank and not be able to get hold of it and making you money.

REMEMBER!! there are more poorer and average working people in this country than rich people keeping your bank running than there are people like yourselves keeping their money in your bank and making you money. All it will take is for people like me to follow suit and take their money out and then you will certainly feel the pinch. People will just move to other banks in the end.

Oh well you cannot reason with stupidity with these banks. No wonder this country is in a mess, its not all down to the government it's to do with the banks and the people running them as we have seen many times in this country.

I bet you didn't have much money in there lol. If you can't have a full account then the bank isn't going to be to fussed about loosing the likes of you!!!

So deal with it and move on....
