they are trying to force me from my current account to Silver Select @ £8 a month - they done this via telephone and I told them I'm not paying £8 a month when I have a current account already, then he hung up on me !

OK, keep calm. Would have been helpful if you had answered my question, but no matter.

The RBS current account range is changing. Key is becoming Basic (and losing Link ATM access). The fee free "Current Account" is being replaced by fee free "Select". Not aware of any essential difference in features.

What you are experiencing on the face of it is "sharp practice", but just how "sharp practice" can't be determined until you answer my question about the *exact* name of your existing account as it appears online.

I'm also slightly confused that your first post talks about "letter" but now "telphone".

Could it be that you are over-reacting ?

It sounds like during a telephone banking conversation the RBS staff member asked you if you would be interested in upgrading your account to a Select Silver Account, with a sales pitch about the benefits. Nothing wrong with that, you simply say no thanks.

However, if the RBS staff member used pressure selling tactics, or mis-information to attempt to force you to change your account type, then write a letter of complaint, include the date and time of the phone call (the bank may be able to replay the telephone recording to check what was said)

NO, The letter stated my current account was being "moved" from a current a/c to a basic acount & basic acccounts were restricted from Oct 2011, I have run my account perfectly over the last 6 months, im being downgraded accounts but can "upgrade" back to a current a/c at £8 a month !!!
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

Please can you confirm the *exact* account type from your online account details. Otherwise meaningful help is not possible and your posts are just "one sided".

The "upgrade" to a paid account is a worrying issue, also reported in other posts. You might want to take note that other posts highlight that paying £8/month for an "upgraded" Select Silver account doesn't even guarantee a "purple" Visa debit card.

Wait and see what HBOS have to offer with their new account range on Monday.

I am calm lol I'm annoyed at the attitude, my iphone app states "current a/c", I dont use online banking.

I recieved the letter, I called them & customer services got someone to call me back (a week later) who said my "current a/c" is being changed (as per the letter) to a basic account & this basic account from late Oct will be restricted & I must pay £8 to keep it a current account.

I'm not away to fight such underhand tactics and have moved all my credits & debits to my Santander CURRENT a/c I opened the same night online after the palava of the branch & thier attitude refusing me to open account AFTER customer services told me just to walk in with ID at 4pm - 2 staff & a manager refused to do so, I called customer relations from the branch and all 3 got thier !!! whipped & the manager lied to customer relations infront of me she & her staff never refused but I bit my tongue and went through the a/c opening procedure.

My Nationwide Flex card could not be used abroad & I needed access abroad and one more day for another opening at a bank was a higher probability I would not have access to my cash abroad via card.

I left RBS after taking a loan out in 1999 who mis sold me PPP as I was contracted 15 hours, they refinanced the loan with the PPP premuim as they said as I usually worked 15+ I would be covered, I asked for that in writing but got refused, they refinanced the loan for more than the original amount - I was young and knew nothing of re-dress after exhausting RBS complaints procedure, they never told me about FSA or the FOS.

My dad 4 years ago after 35 years with RBS/employer on retirement RBS tried to close his current account down even though with mortgage cleared he had more disposible income than ever on his pension but after 35 years being retired somehow damaged his internal RBS credit score and the manager at his 35 years local branch asked him by "personal" letter to pay his £1000 overdraft he had had for 20+ yrs and £2000 credit card off immediatly and find a new bank - why ? THE FACT his other son had defaulted on his RBS credit card of £1500 and £500 overdraft due to long term illness (bank knew of illness) and RBS tried to hold dad accountable for sons financial state as he had moved back to dads address as he was so ill - a 35 year "individuals" flawless credit file not good enough for RBS, there was no financial connection between them but RBS manager took stance thier was as living at same address.

The RBS is now owned by us, it is till a joke....apparently.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

I'm sorry, your story keeps changing, you never mentioned your account being moved from a current a/c to a basic a/c in your other post(s) :(

Therefore, I'll not be adding anything further to your discussion.

I'd suggest you contact RBS before the FOS. The FOS won't consider your complaint until you've give the bank a reasonable chance to deal with it.
I did, and got confirmed pay £8 or leave, the bank know im disabled, RBS ATM's only does not fit & to ask me to pay £8 pm & deny a impeccible credit record for Select on Select8 ! Fine - they lost my current & savings account balances today - but the accounts remain open to cost them money to maintain so its win/win for me :D

    Reported for what ?
I only mentioned that your story keeps changing so I would not be adding anything further.
If MSE staff think I posted anything wrong they would delete my post.

    Part of the Furniture
see at first I thought it was just a way of them clearing out basic acc holders, but its just a way to try and get ppl to buy their £8 select acc. Everytime u phone now, they go through this spiel about 'offers of products and services', only to then ask u to upgrade to the £8 acc. I told the 1st guy 'no i dont wanna pay for an acc', and he said 'err ur actually paying for the rewards'. HAHAHAHA!

Surely they have current accs without a fee? why is the 'upgrade' to an £8 one rather than the non paying one? RBS act like their bank is paved with gold.

They need to jog on. TWONKS.
