Thanks Sam, the babysitting, iron etc are good ideas and will definitely try to get some casual work like that to top up my MA, haven't really got anything of any value to sell, might be able to get rid of some clothes on ebay though..
I don't think it's very fair for you to comment that I haven't considered the financial implications of my pregnancy or child, because that isn't the case. I have just found myself in a difficult situation, which I don't think is entirely my fault.
I'm not looking for a free ride or to handed money on a plate and have always worked hard up to now, I just feel that I could do with some help at the moment and can't seem to find any that is available to me.0 -
thanks..
Sam, I edited because I realized that it came across rudely and didn't intend it that way at all, just a little bit worked up and upset with things today. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you, I appreciate everyones advice.
Maternity allowance is £127 p/w or 90% of your weekly income, which ever is less. I can only prove that I earn £96 p/w (I actually earn more, but only have payslips for 16 hours and am paid cash after that) which leaves me with £87.
Again, I apologise, I know I came across rudely, but that really wasn't my intention and lets face it, I need all the help and advice I can get atm!
Fair enough, no probs
Where about in the country are you? and do you know the sex of the baby?
I have a shed load of stuff for a little girl, clothes, moses basket etc etc, if it helps you out at all I'd be willing to send them to you0 -
Mildred... I understand that my situation isn't one to be encouraged, but it is the situation that I am in none the less, and I feel that I need some help.
I have been in full time employment for years, and went back to university as a mature student to try and improve my prospects a bit. I have never claimed any type of benefit before and am certainly not wanting to be kept by the state for any amount of time.
As for the year off, I was advised by my university to take a year off, because I am due to give birth during my exam period, I would have preferred to have stayed at university and finished my degree during my pregnancy and after the birth of the baby, to get my degree out of the way and start working again asap.
I really don't want to give the impression that I just want to sit on my !!!! and expect to be given lots of money to do so, but I was under the impression that the benefits system is there as a safety net for when people find themselves in difficult circumstances, which I feel that I am at the moment, and I was just hoping that someone would be able to point me in the right direction.0 -
Thanks Sam,
I'm in Leeds and am due around Christmas, I'm really excited. I'm having a baby boy and I'm really lucky as I've got some good friends who have given me heaps of things but thank you very much for your kind offer!0 -
Mildred, not really sure why you're attacking me, I'm doing my best to get myself out of a difficult situation and just asking for a little bit of help and advice.
I suppose what I meant to say, rather than not entirely my fault, is that some of the factors are beyond my control, that doesn't mean that I'm not taking responsibility for them and doing my best to work through the situation, just that I don't think I'm completely out of order to be asking for a little bit of help.0 -

That's lovely, I have 2 boys and a baby girl.
just to remind you that freecycle have some generous people on it if you have a look for stuff on there.
Get to see a benefits advisor, I have feeling as your taking a year out you aren't classed as a student for that time (could be wrong though)0 -
aww that's lovely, hope all is well and happy with them...
Don't think I could abuse freecycle much more if I tried, but will be keeping a close eye on it for baby things!
Will definitely look at getting a benefits advisor, I find the whole system completely bamboozling, I have been using the direct.gov.uk website to do benefits calculations and it never comes out the same twice, I've also been to CAB a couple of times, but think they're horribly underfunded and stretched to breaking point atm because even getting there at 8am doesn't guarantee that you're seen an appointments are booked way in advance.
Think I might just go sit in the benefits office and refuse to move until someone sees me!0 -
Yeah, Sams got it right, I don't live in a student house, I live in the home I've lived in for years and am not sure my parents would be very happy to have their adult daughter back home all of a sudden.
I could do it as a last resort, but am probably more likely to stay with friends if I do have to move out.0 -

Thank you both for your support, it's very kind of you, especially cos I'm feeling like a complete flop atm

Am sure I'll find a way round it eventually, just finding things frustrating and hard for the time being!
Ah well, someone got eaten by a shark yesterday, so there's always someone worse off!0
