1) Of course you SHOULD be allowed to exercise in your own home. HOWEVER,
2) It's noisy and you need to think about other people that live there. Okay, so they may not be ideal tenants, but since when did two wrongs make a right? Either find a compromise or move elsewhere!
My dad has a running machine and for the 40 minutes that he's on it three times a week the entire house vibrates with every step. I don't think you realise just how loud they are until you hear it yourself. I've glad i don't live with my parents, i think that noise would force me out of the house whenever he was on it.
Please, i implore you, read my comments first. I'm fed up of repeating myself.Deposit Saved £900/£25,000 3.6% :wall:0 -
I have read the entire bloomin thread, that's half an hour of my life i'm never going to get back.saving up another deposit as we've lost all our equity.

...err what? what on earth are you on about?
I am 'on about' why your argument for using your treadmill is flawed.
You said that you thought you should be able to use it (your treadmill) rather than exercising at a gym (which would not annoy your neighbours), because you owned one - you had paid a lot of money for it.
That is not a good reason for being allowed to use it, is it? Just as it (the mere fact that I owned them) would not be a good reason for me to play loud music through my expensive speakers in an antisocial way, would it?
Hope that helps.
If it doesn't, then I would begin to feel just a little sorry for your neighbours!0 -

Ok so you still thought you'd point out that:
A: treadmills make a lot of noise...(which i have duly acknowledged multiple times)
B: that i should compromise or move...(both points that i have (surprise, surprise) mentioned/replied to on many occasions)Mind_the_Gap wrote: »I am 'on about' why your argument for using your treadmill is flawed.

.......right. I think you have somehow managed to categorically misunderstand this entire thread, my point of view AND arguments. I don't know how, but you've managed it.
The only quote i can muster a guess as to why you think i want to use it because i own it and its expensive is this: (which i have quoted to save you the trouble. I am nice. By the way, its a tongue in cheek comment, i hope you don't take the one about the Degu's not speaking Turkish seriously....they cant speak English either)I hope that's the case, its an expensive piece of equipment and i'd actually like to use it believe it or not
Or maybe you think i want to use because i own it...which i do....otherwise i wouldn't have bought it.
Just to clear up any further misunderstandings. This thread concerns the fact that I feel my rights as a tenant have been infringed upon by this supposed ban that my LL has applied. IF Say i decided to not use the treadmill but to do jumping jacks? spiderman runs? any form of plyo? push up claps? would you be equally opposed despite the fact that non are expensive & I don't own anything?
Or does my body count too? i consider that expensive...in fact i value it quite high...its high on my list of things that i value. I own it i guess, hopefully that means i can use it in my own flat...Deposit Saved £900/£25,000 3.6% :wall:0 -

i'd like to live in a detached house, without any near neighbours, but i can't afford it. as such, i adjust my lifestyle to suit.:happyhear0 -

Good point, this is entirely where my issue is.
What am I allowed to do in the flat? that is exactly the point i was trying to get at...Ultimately, can he say you cannot do any of the above mentioned activities not if any of them are 'nice'. We plan to leave at the break point anyway, not that this means I'm going to be a pain because i know I'm leaving. I just think its better to know my rights and not bend over backwards like a lot of people in this country.
For anyone who disagrees with my treadmill, walking, weights, push ups etc etc. I really am no longer going to argue the perceived rights and wrongs of it. Its pointless.Deposit Saved £900/£25,000 3.6% :wall:0 -
since they can give out an ASBO for someone who had sex too loudly, it's really all about what noise, at what volume and at what time.... this issue, as has been mentioned, is common sense to a large degree but will entirely depend on where you live. there is no cut and dry rule. it's just about being reasonable and considerate.:happyhear0

One 30 minute exercise session a day should be nothing to moan about unless it's at 7am or 11pm.
You could borrow a baby and they could discover what real noise is.0 -

If your flat is a conversion it was designed for the first storey floors to bear bedroom furniture and to be walked on. You'll really have something to complain about when you join your downstairs neighbour because your floor and their ceiling has given way......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
