£10 off train tickets

I usually travel to London with my children using the Family & Friends Railcard which takes the price down considerably. I buy an Off Peak Travelcard so that we can use the underground. I buy this at the railway station not online and so I don't have to ask for specific outward and return train times. We just potter back home when w're worn out. I do check on the First Great Western site that our tickets are valid for a few different return times, and choose from one of them when we decide to come home.
Hope that makes some sort of sense! x
The fare finder will give you all sorts of options and there are many different fares to contend with.
If you see the words "Valid Only On Your Chosen Service" then you know that you must be on that specific train/time for your ticket to be valid. The more expensive tickets will not have this condition.
I have spent a fair few hours "kicking about" waiting for our specific train to depart, having erred on the side of caution and booked a later train after a day out. But it's saved us ££££s so I am not complaining.:rotfl:
But just how much you can save depends how far away you are from London and how far in advance you can book.
So if you are not too far from London then sometimes a cheap day return bought on the day at your home station can be a good option (especially with a railcard), as you can go on a whim and come back later that day on the service that you want.

I've never booked a train ticket so sorry if this is a bit dim. If I book a ticket for next saturday do I pick it up from the train station and if I do can I pick it up earlier or does it have to be picked up on the day we are travelingseptember wins - toshiba laptop, timotei shampoo & conditioner, mccains games, pimms picnic blanket.
october wins - grants tumblers, £20 petrol voucher, sega console, iphone
novembers wins - £50 on walkers rainy day, £50 itunes voucher
march wins - dog treats0 -
If it is for a week away it should allow it to be posted to yourselves via first class post free of charge.
If not, collect at your departing station if there is a fast ticket machine there.
If you spend anything over and above the £10 voucher, you will need the card you paid with to collect the ticket.
If it is below the £10 then any debit or credit card will do to access the fast ticket.0 -

I got mine & bought tickets to London, but I've paid, and at the bottom of the Order Confirmation, it lists the original price, not the price with the voucher (but the voucher is mentioned higher up) Is this normal?
I would like to know this too. Just about to purchase tickets but it want me to pay the full price without the £10 discount.Something unexpected happened which made me smile and still continues to make me smile.

yes to both of you - it is normal.
I booked a ticket to London for next week. Normal price for a weekend ticket is £17.50 - and at the top it mentions the evoucher, but that's it.
Checked my bank today and I have only paid £7.50.

I don't know if the site uses Verifired by Visa (and the Mastercard one) but if it does then you can check the price it is actually deducting on the pin entry screen.
I never got a voucher in the end and it is well past 72 hours now.
I won't be the only one to miss out though and considering the first 10,000 went in a few minutes, the afternoon ones were bound to be snapped up quickly as well.0 -
I was lucky enough to get a voucher, just going to book a trip for DS using code.
was just about to ask the same question regarding the full price coming up thanks for answering.0 -

Just wondered if you managed to find out the price charged? I am about to purchase a ticket over the value of £10 and it looks like the full price will be charged to my credit card.0
