I seriously need to join in here and reduce my food waste! Fruit and vege I am ok with, but with us it is cold meat. I already buy smaller packets but after a day the kids say the chicken smells funny and won't eat it.. Do you think putting the cold meat into a click and click box will keep it fresher for longer?
And potatoes is another thing here, they sprout so quickly, I do keep them in the dark. I have read on the threads that you can parboil spuds and freeze them? And then roast them when you need them from frozen. Do they not go black while you are cooling them?
And what do you put them in? Just freezer bags?

Off to read more of your inspirational pages.

I have a small tray of vine toms about 10 which need to be used now, Can I freeze them?
I'd bash them up (maybe remove the skins) and put them in a bag to use in some pasta sauce at a later date.
I always have veg in cupboard not used up - can I freeze them raw or do I need to cook/blanche first?
If you check the 'quick questions about anything' thread there is loads of advice on how to freeze certain veg and I'm sure you'll find the answers there.
Just thought - I have several tubs of soup in the freezer which I bought for a few pence each, however they are a bit spicy for me, can I mix them with homemade stuff to make it blander?
Yes - Depending on whether any are tomato based you could use your bashed up toms from above for this.

Wow I am so inspired by this thread. I'm eating up leftovers for tea, but am off to make some tuna and sweetcorn fishcakes with some potatoes that have seen better days;) , which will do for tea tomorrow with some peas.

Then I think I make a lentil moussaka as I bought a cheap aubergine in Lidl this week, and moussaka is a great meal to freeze and then just microwave for tea when I'm working late. Might see if there's anything else I can cook up while I'm in the mood:rolleyes: .

I'm also going to try the cream cheese and tomato pasta sauce this week as it will make a change from just tomato and go very well with the spinach and ricotta filled pasta in the fridge!

Thanks everybody, and keep the ideas coming:j .

We had some new potatoes left over from last nights meal so sliced them and fried in olive oil, a very simple tasty lunch with some crusty bread.

Today for dinner and afters I made Macaroni Cheese and a Banana cake. I had to use some milk that was going off today and also used some cake mix that was a few months old (I didn't tell my guests that though) and added some over ripe bananas and some sultanas that I've been soaking in rum and fortified wine for over a year. I sent the guests off with a packed lunch and the cake was a resounding success.

I had to throw something away... the coleslaw had started to 'fizz'! Not a whole tub though. Never mind, am doing OK otherwise.

I've had a crazy couple of days! It was DD 2nd birthday on Friday and her party on Sat. I did some buffet food, normally I'd go way OTT but this time I was quite sensible and there was only a bit of food left over which we used for the lunch on sunday! Although I really don't mind eating buffet leftovers!!

I can't do any more food to freeze because I can't squeeze another thing in there!!! I've meal planned for this week so I can use a lot of it up and start cooking again!!

I was at work today and didn't take any food with me and had to buy it there. I'm off to make lunch for tomorrow because I'll just be annoyed with myself at the end of the week when the bread/ham etc is all going off!

Whoops - 3 lemons binned yesterday - they had started to go mouldy (organic prices too - aagh!). Note to self - must stop buying too many lemons - and remember they can be frozen.

So - dont want a repeat of food being binned - and I opened a 2 pint carton of milk this a.m. to find it has gone sour. I dont want to bin that - any ideas for using it - other than scones (as I am on a diet at present)?

Also - found (after making my morning porridge) that the milk in that had obviously gone sour too. Didnt want to waste it - so ate it anyway (hmmm!) and had to make it palatable with opening a can of grapefruit to have some with it. Again - thinking of the diet - dont want to waste the rest of that can. Can one freeze canned fruit (specifically grapefruit)?

(Think I didnt realise with the milk - as its harder to tell when it has been pasteurised - but not homogenised - as its got bits of "cream" floating around anyway with that.)
