I had a recipe for a fruitcake or carrot cake that used either readybreak or fine ground oats. I'll have a look and see if I can find it later today. Also, i think there were some on here maybe a year or so back for oaty crackers and shortbread where you substituted readybrek for a small amount of flour (or rice flour).

You can mix it into crumble mix to top fruit or even for savoury crumble.

sorry not too much help - using old laptop that has limited qualities - or is that me?? :D

*** just re-read your post and realise that it's over 3 years old :D - have you checked the date? I think I'd be inclined to bin it :) ***
  • Hi, I am half way through my 2nd box of ready oats. For some reason Hubby bought 1 which no one ate, then bought another instead of porridge oats, as I wanted to make flap jacks.:D Pity your is so old as, I put dried fruit seeds and raisens in mine. (at least saving on museli). Sure it will be ok for cooking though.:D

Well done to everyone, we're doing so well!!! It's amazing how much you don't throw out when your thinking about it.

On today's list of things to use up is a pack of sausages and a sausage casserole packet mix (it's been in the cupboard for about 2 years!) and I'm going to make a vegtable bake with cheese biscuit topping!

I've also got strawberrys and mango to use up today, all I can think is a fruit salad (imagination isn't anstrong point for me!) Any idea's would be more than welcome!!

Have a good day everyone x

Fridge is looking nice and tidy, nothing to use up really, except some apples that I got cheap at the weekend, going to process and cook those for the freezer.

Must check the freezer now and use something up for tea.

Had to chuck some eggs away as they where not boiled enough so where still a bit raw

    That is my husbands fault.

    But nothing apart from that.

Also would this not better as a daily thread. Rather like the OS chat so we have new thread each day:confused:

Had to throw away a small amount of made up tuna and sweetcorn mayo, as it'd been in the fridge for 3 days and wasn't sure I trusted it! Made a new smaller batch for OH for today and tomorrow's lunches though. Other than that, nothing this week x

Smoothies or blend and freeze for later use or maybe a sorbet.

    Others no idea.

I bought a large tub of whoopsie Pro-biotic Yoghurt on Sunday (couple of days to go on the date :D).

Yesterday I got pointed in the right direction for the Yoghurt Cake recipe - absolutely delicious  .

Today I've noticed that the apples in the fruit bowl are looking decidedly 'wrinkly' (just like me ;) ). They will now be cut into chunks and 'nuked' for a few minutes and then chilled till tea-time. Home-made apple and yoghurt - just like a 'fruit corner'! May even serve with a bit of the yoghurt cake IF there's any left by then :o .

Got three chicken carcasses in the freezer (taking up valuable freezer space!). They can go in the SC for a few hours to get some chicken stock out of them.

Enjoying this - now I'm a woman on a mission!

Sorbet? Or reduce them as a sauce for ice cream etc, like a coulis?

Does anybody have any ideas as to what I could make with a large quantity of ready brek? .
    thanks

can't find the carrot cake recipe that I was looking for but remembered it was a muffin recipe that I baked in a loaf tin instead. I can't highlight on this laptop so links are laborious but if you google 'ground oatmeal muffins', I think you should get some. www.Recipezaar.com is a good site as is www.joyofbaking.com & www.allrecipes.com
