Very seldom does anything get wasted in this household, with the exception of cream for some reason. I should freeze half the tub from the outset now I think about it.
I have been very good since the start of the year, labelling everything in the freezer (sometimes they come detached though) and freezing small portions of anything left. It's a real struggle remembering everything I have and all the little boxes and tubs take up quite a lot of room in my kitchen freezer. It's difficult when there is only one or two people in the household though, to use it all up. I suppose the truth is that however frugal we are, we still have too much!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

I have a little tip on potatoes if anyone is interested .
Basically any potato will do ,and seen as I am always left with 4/5 from a bag I make this every week or so . Plus it works out to be less than £4:00 to feed 4 (with 2 potatoes each) .
So you need potatoes ,butter and rock salt . First off ,cover your potatoes in butter ,and I mean smother them (the more the better ,and I use cling film to do this bit) then place them on a baking tray (no tinfoil needed ,better this way) then cover them in rock salt . Stick them in the oven (middle ,mark 200) and leave them for an hour/hour and a half . Sometimes I leave them the 2 hours to get a crisper shell . Keep in mind at least half way through ,you should turn them over . No need to pierce them .
When ready ,fill as usual . But with these being so tasty skinned I normally just use plain butter or cheese . I swear once you try these you wont go back to ordinary potatoes or tinfoiled ones againI once prayed to god for a bike, but quickly found out he didnt work that way...so I stole a bike and prayed for his forgiveness .........0 -
Thanks Farz I do a similar trick but with olive oil instead of butter.Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

You could whip it and icing/pipe it as roses and freeze on a tray. Then just store in a tupperware box in the freezer for cakes.0 -
Dinner todaywill be left over chicken wings from Tuesday with hg salad and millet. Boiled up the chicken wing tips (which I snipped off before cooking) to make stock. Added the spicy juices from the Chinese ribs and wings to make a spicy sauce. Will de-bone the lo wings and add them to the sauce - not done this before so hope it works. DGSs don't like chicken wings so will just do the ribs next time. The ribs went down really well especially with DH
Good idea about freezing cream. I usually make leftover cream into peppercorn sauce with brandy & stilton to go with steak or into veloute sauce with white wine to go with fish. Both of these get frozen in 2 person batches. Any de-frosted sauce left once we have eaten a meal gets put in the soup pot.Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Burgers made from chicken, lamb and lambs liver leftovers from the freezer. Better than superstore type.0

Today it was great to use the ready made leftovers recipes for lunch making more time for other tasks. Yesterday I got a reminder of the disadvantages of superstore shopping so will keep this in mind!0

my OH is in charge of making toast in our house but he keeps having senior moments and forgetting it, leaving it in the toaster
DS won't eat reaheated toast (its usually made for him) and often me and OH have eaten something else in the meantime and dont want extras because of the calories (its confusing I know) so the end result is usually 2 slices of stone cold toast heading for the bin
the question is can i make it into croutons perhaps and freeze them, how do i do that?
any other cold toast ideas? :AWins: 2008: £606.10 2009: £806.24 2010: £713.47 2011: 328.320 -

We soak our slices in a bowl of water for 5min, tear up the pieces and throw the lot to the birds. Excellent for us forgetful types!:A Thanks to all the lovely people who contribute their advice! :A0
