Now anyone got any good low fat ideas of what to do with a load of eating apples no-one ate and are a bit too soft?

i puree cooking apples and we eat them with warm custard (and maybe some broken up digestive if there is any) or you could do a pork and apple casarole

newlywed do you need to blanch the celery first? I bought an entire head for a casserole and have loads left. Really not a fan of raw.

Since joining GC thread nothing in this house gets thrown out if it can be avoided. Tonight re-planning the weekly menus as I have been ill and didn't feel like cooking. But I don't intend for anything to go to waste.

I stew them with a little sugar and lemon juice and freeze as apple sauce

I have half a carton of passatta left to use only I don't really know how to make anything with it.

The other half I tried to make a pasta sauce but it was just so runny and sweet. I cooked it with onion, mushrooms and 2 tablespoons of sweetner! Bleaugh!

How can I make a nice thick pasta sauce please?

Fredula only add sweetner at the end IF when you taste the sauce you think it needs sweeting.

For a simple pasta dish try,
fry onion in a tablespoon of oil, for about 2-3 mins on med heat
add chopped toms, shake of salt & pepper and a teaspoon of mixed herbs.
next add sliced mushrooms and chopped bacon (if a meat eater)
add a table spoon of passatta / tomato puree and stir in, reduce heat to low
boil water and add pasta for required time
before pasta is cooked taste sauce and see if it is to your liking and if thickened. add more passatta if required or turn up heat to cook off any water.
when pasta is ready drain and then add to the sauce, stir in and cook for a further 1-2 mins to heat throughly and ensure pasta is well coated. Serve.

with your half carton leftovers could you add to mince for a bolongese or chilli? add to a sausage casserole or add to minestrone soup.

Just bought two jars of sweetcorn relish from Tesco for 19p each for BBQ season, however is there anything else I could make with them? I wondered about adding to chicken sandwiches but anything else?

I used to love this on my sandwiches - completely forgotton about its existence!

think it is like any relish just use on burgers, with salads and to liven up anything else you fancy it with.

Thats ok. Heres a recipe for chicken stock http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/chicken-recipes/easy-chicken-stock. I make mine and then freeze it if I make too much.

As for the meat let it cool on the counter and then freeze it
