    Given to me by a friend who over-catered for her family - a brace of partridge, and one of pheasant. Both cooked and have been frozen. I should imagine they'd be too tough to reheat and eat, wondering if I can put them in the sc to make a gamey casserole. Can't think of another way to tenderise them but I'm sure someone here can ;)

    Also a good few thick slices of home baked ham which I could do the previous suggestions with - thank you apple_mint and Primrose - but it's very salty. Is there a way I can reduce the salt flavour?

    hannah I believe jackets freeze well, apparently restaurants buy them in ready frozen. Never fanced it m'self but 'they' say it works okay

    Sparrer, taking a look around the web, people seem to recommend using potatoes to neutralise salty ham. I've not had this problem so haven't tried it. Perhaps you could cook some sort of casserole or something like a cornbeef-hash style dish with it?

    I've frozen ready cooked jacket potatoes and used them for packed lunches (microwaved them and then added a topping). They are not as good as when freshly made but still a tasty lunch. I've also used chopped jacket potatoes in a pan stir fry/hash type meals. I hate to waste anything ;)

  • I have just had a lovely dinner - left over mash and left over beans made into a cheese and egg pie (mash with spring onions chopped through it - made into a mound with a hole made in the middle, break an egg into it and cover the whole lot with grated cheese - oven bake for 30 mins).

    I always make more mash than I need so I can freeze some or use some for pie toppings or for meals the next day. I have even used it to make gnocchi and potato scones.

    thanks fo this idea buddingblonde . have leftover mash from dinner tonight . so this will do this for us for dinner tomorrow

    You could try soaking it in cold water for a few hours or overnight. If I have a whole ham hock, I normally do this before cooking it in the pressure cooker. If you're worried about it going off, put the ham & water in the fridge, although when I soak the ham hock in water I don't bother and it's always been fine as it does get thoroughly cooked. Even if your ham is already baked, it may still help.

    This is a great idea! After reading the tightwad gazette, I started a "freezer fairy" (large tupperware jug with a lid in the freezer) into which I saved all the odds and end of veg leftovers and gravy etc., When it is full I make a soup. Just tipped it all into large pan, simmer until tender and then into the food processor! Back into pan and season to taste! Soup for free! Each time the soup is slightly different but all good and nourishing!

    help got tub of brandy butter going out of date unopened wasent sure if could freeze.

    also got cream 3days out of date will it be ok to use.

    I have 1 and a half pots of extra thick double fresh cream that are use by today the cartons say dont freeze the open one was opened on the 1st any ideas what i can do with them (have read posts on the quick questions about freezing thread that some people still freeze products that say not suitable for freezing.... confused ). can i cook something with them? or should i just bin them :mad:.

    gailey - if the brandy butter and cream pots are unopened, yes, they can go in the freezer. I have often opened cream that is a week out of date which is still fine to use. .
