It's only if they actually float and the shells have lost their gloss that you have to be very careful. They're probably off by then, though you can always break them one at a time into a cup - the smell will soon tell you ...! Older eggs can be used in cooking (cakes) or scrambled eggs. They'll spread all over a frying pan if you wanted to fry them, or poach them in water, if they're a bit old.
I forgot - I've filled my freezer with prepared apples, and had to extract a packet of wraps to make room. I can't think of any way to use the wraps - has anyone any ideas?

I very rarely get round to eating eggs before their sell by date.
Then I bake stuff to use them up. I have actually eaten one that floated (fried, IIRC) and it was fine. Months past the sell by date.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I've just made this from lots of odd bits of leftover cooked roast lamb, which I've popped into the freezer over time, the odd slice here & there! Lamb is just about th eonly meat I don't make into soup!
I got out all the lamb, squeezed over it 1/2 a tube of Balti Paste I had left in the fridge, added some hot curry powder (we like spicy!). Then I got out some really old sprouting potatoes, peeled them & part boiled them, coarsely grated them & added in a beated egg & seasoned. With the potato water I made a little gravy as I didn't have any leftover around & mixed it well into the lamb. The lamb mixture was spread across a dish & covered with the potato rosti mix. Pop into the oven for about 25 minutes, turn the heat up for the last 5 minutes to get the rosti crispy! Yum! I guess it would be easy to chuck in any leftover veg too.0 -
I had a bowl of gravy from last night sausage casserole with bread and butter for lunch - no sausages left, just a few straggly bits of onion and mushrooms and a few beans! Was yummy tooSo, there are these boys,

Looking for a little bit of help (and hoping this is the right place). I have just made a plate pie today and have a small ball of the shortcrust pastry left over (tennis ball size if that). Any suggestions as to what I could do with it? I can just stick it in the freezer and add to it but thought maybe someone could come up with a slightly more creative use. ThanksEmma

Jam tarts or little quiches/pasties for lunch boxes? I usually just put a piece of cheese, some softened onion and some pickle in and they are very tasty for lunch with some salad.0

If you have any of the pie filling leftover you could make some little pasties for lunchboxes?
Jam tarts - roll out, cut into rounds, put in a bun tin with a tsp of jam or lemon curd in each
Mini quiches - fry 1/2 an onion and a few bacon bits, line bun tin with pastry rounds, put a spoon of the bacon/onion mix in and fill with beaten egg, top with cheese and bake.
