When my kids were young they would just eat the yolk out of a fried egg and would also sometimes leave a bit of bacon. I must admit that I would stick the leftovers between 2 slices of bread and eat it!Dum Spiro Spero0

Dumb question, how would I go about just cooking the yolk?
When I say they leave the edges, I mean they just eat a £2 coin size bit from in the middle, leaving a fair bit of crispy bacon.
I have never made egg and bacon pie before, off to google
To cook just the yolk, separate your eggs as if you were making a cake. If you can do the 'pouring between two halves of eggshell' trick, do that, otherwise break your egg onto a saucer or small plate, and put an egg cup over the yolk, then pour off the white into a separate container. Use the white for meirangues or mix it with a couple of whole eggs for scrambled egg. The yolks can be fried up with whatever small amount of the white is left as you would normally fry an egg.
The bacon problem might be solved by buying lean bacon and cutting the rashers in half before cooking, or else remove the skin/fat edge from cheap bacon with a sharp knife and make mini pork scratchings with it, either in a hot oven on a baking tray or deep fried. Not particularly healthy, but yummy!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
They seem to be leaving more than they're eating. So I'd be leaving it off the menu at least for a while until they're less picky.
Try scrambled egg of toast, or beans on toast instead.
If they ask why you're not doing the egg and bacon, explain they're wasting too much food.
Personally, I wouldn't like making something from leftovers that have already been on someones plate and picked at.0 -
bacon could be made into quiche...added to a pasta bake...added to chicken for a pie....im at a loss to think what u can do with egg whites except when i fry eggs i put 2 in a small pan...the whites join up and i use a fish slice to cut white from one yolk...oh gets all egg white i get a yolk... i loath egg white it makes me heaveonwards and upwards0

You can make quite a nice fluffy omelette from egg-whites. Very trendy0

Hi Squashy
personally I would remove the leftovers before serving so only give the kids the parts they eat. You have some really good advice here alreadyOr of course, don't serve it but I understand if it's their favourites.
Would they eat eggs in a cup mashed up with butter? That was (and still is) one of my faves as a kidI wouldnt have eat the bacon fat either, and for chops I just used to eat the circular bit. How my mother put up with me I don't know?! :rotfl: Now i practically chew the bone , the rare time I do eat chops!:D
Cut out the part of bacon they eat, and chop the rest up and freeze as bacon lardons. You could use the lardons in pasta sauces, leek and potato soup, topping off pasta bakes (mmm crispy) - loads of uses!
I've added your thread to the leftovers thread, so we can keep all the information together
thanks

Just thought , how old are the children, under 5's aren't supposed to eat raw/partially cooked egg.
For over 5's why not try soft boiled egg with toast or bread and butter soldiers, you could include some little squares of cooked lean bacon too. Based on how much they eat decrease or increase the number of bacon squares.
Boiling eggs is healthier than frying.0 -
What can I make with some ancient broccoli & bacon misshapes ? I have cheese and flour and onions and plenty store cupboard stuff. This will need to made tonight. TY0
-
I'd saute the broccoli, bacon and onions in butter (add some other vege's too if you like). Then put in a greased oven proof dish. Add an egg/milk mix (you can add cheese if you like, if you don't add the cheese sprinkle some dried mixed herbs on the top). An oven bake, it makes either the equiv of a pastry less quiche, or a frittatta.
It's nice with baked beans or a salad or nice vege's.0 -
ok many thanks..
