Food wasted today - 3 slices of green bread but we did have a freezer defrost this week by accident inc some breads so not too bothered. Just pleased we managed to use the rest up.
Can bread go in the compost bin?One day I might be more organised...........

I don't think bananas last very long at all. I buy them green, within a day they are ready to eat, past 3 days I don't like them unless they are in banana custard, or banana loaf. I prefer to eat them crisp and crunchy.
I try to only buy a few at a time so that they don't go the way of the bin.

Funky, I buy nanas when they are greenish-just turning yellow and hang on a tree. They last in the shady kitchen for 4 or 5 days0

Hi, Could anyone give me a recipe for banana bread please and can you use a breadmaker to do it? It sounds lovely. Also any tips for soup, I have tried to make it in the past but it has always turned out really bland. Then when I try to spice it up a bit it just tastes horrid.
Thanks everyone.
Hiya Hun
This is the recipe I use for banana bread from the be-ro book. It's the first recipe under scones and tealoves. I don't think you could do it in the breadmaker - it's more cakey than bready but very yum
What do you normally put in your soup? I tend to gently fry an onion then add whatever veg I want to use up, some water to cover, S&P, few herbs let it all simmer until completely soft. Blend it all up, have a taste, if it's too thick I add milk and if it's too thin I simmer again until it thickens up. Some have been nicer than others but I haven't had a horrible one yet.
I'm really loving this thread and I'm going to make a real effort not to throw food away.

Well done everyone its day 3 of the challenge

Well today we were given some Cyprus Turkish delight with nuts in...no one likes it in my house except me and i didn't want to throw it away so i ate the lot and feel yucky now (that will teach me for being a pig and using this challenge as an excuse) anyway...
I made the rhubarb jam and we had it for breakfast today and it was lovely! I must pick and make some more.
By the way, i have some early sproating broccoli ready for picking at my allotment ...does anyone know how to get the flies out before cooking (it really puts me off when i see them bubbling in the water when cooking). I've tried soaking in salt but it does seems to get rid of them.
Keep going everyone with the challenge.0 -
Maltesers: I completely ignore dates on jars. I just sniff before using lol. Haven't had a bad one yet!
Now, does anyone have any pineapple suggestions? I bought half a one in the market today and the cheeky rip-off *************** (grr) gave me one that's going mouldy (white speckly) on outside and the edges are brown. I'm a bit funny with pineapple as ate one once that really HAD gone too far, yeuch!"She who asks is a fool once. She who never asks is a fool forever"
I'm a fool quite often0 -
Pretz, have you got a recipe for rhubarb jam please? Have been given loads, I've frozen lots but can't be bothered to cut more up! Would love to make some jam with it, never had rhubarb jam - I've also never made jam so need a really easy recipe!
I'm loving this thread, some great ideas here for me.0 -

I'm no expert and not sure what others think, BUT prawns (any seafood actually) is something that I would never take a chance with. I would eat the meal (as long as the prawns are piping hot) but I wouldn't take a chance on freezing again!0 -
