I got the recipe from the back of my cream of tartar pot. Heres the recipe:
    Drop scones (Scotch Pancakes)
    1. Beat 2 eggs with 275ml(1/2 pint) of milk
    2. Stir into a mixture of 225g (8oz) self raising flour and 50g (2oz) caster sugar
    3. Add 1 tsp Cream Of Tartar and beat well to make a thick batter
    4. Place tbsps of mixture individually on a greased, moderately heated griddle or thick frying pan.
    5. Lift and turn when bubbles form on surface of mixture.
    6. Cook until both sides are golden. Serve with butter

Thanks everso much - I'm going to make some this afternoon :D

Hi everyone i would like to join this challenge as im forever throwing things away. I am away now at my sisters and not back till sunday..where i will have to throw the gone off food away thats in my fridge but after that i will try and not throw anything away.

Can anyone help me with this question that follows....

I have a 3 year old and a 2 year old and i do kiddy portions for them but the 2 year old hardly eats anything i make, she eats breakfast everyday but if she eats her dinner she wont eat tea and if she doesnt eat dinner she will eat her tea.. so my point exactly on this is what can i do with the food she doesnt eat/left over? When i am cooking and i cook too much i always freeze it, but dont think it a good idea to freeze food that she has left on her plate.

Hi, Could anyone give me a recipe for banana bread please and can you use a breadmaker to do it? It sounds lovely. Also any tips for soup, I have tried to make it in the past but it has always turned out really bland. Then when I try to spice it up a bit it just tastes horrid.

    Thanks everyone.

How about downsizing both meals to half size so that she is eating the same amount but at both meal times. Then as she grows increase slightly so that she only leaves a tiny bit.

I think you are right not to freeze anything that has been on someone's plate as bacteria are likely to have 'moved in'.

    Enjoy your weekend.

I had leeks in the fridge which needed using, so I took the two chicken carcasses I had saved in the freezer and made stock, then added the sliced leeks, a few wilted stalks of celery, and two chopped potatoes for a delicious leek and potato soup :) I feel very satisfied with myself :)

Hiya, Ive got quite a few eggs (about 10) in the fridge and they go off tomorrow. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do/make with them? DP had 3 boiled eggs for breakfast and now I dont know what else to do. Thanks in advance

My chickens lay our eggs and because they don't come out with sell-by dates on them, I have no idea when they are supposed to 'go off':)

If you aren't sure about them, why not make sponge cakes and freeze them?

Eggs are easy! Cakes, yorkshire pudding, pancakes, omelette. To be honest the use by dates are pretty flexible on eggs, I keep them for at least a week after with no problems (but probably not for soft boiled).

I've now got a pot of sludgy green soup on my stove! Almost wilted bag of salad (watercress, rocket and spinach), some sauteed onions, a few shrivelled tomatoes and whizzed up at the end with a stick blender. A dash of lemon juice, chilli flakes and garlic complete it. :j

Mind you, I think I will be the only one using this soup up as it looks like it's already passed through the cat! :rotfl:A couple of spoonfuls of sour cream or creme fraiche and it'll be fine.

Loving this thread. Did anyone see the "expert" on saving food on GMTV. Made me laugh when she said she is flexable over use by dates and only throws stuff away when it is about to walk off on its own. Then the presenter(fiona?) said she once ate a yoghurt 3 wks over its date. She said she enjoyed it but it made her sick as a dog. Mind you she says always good to have a clear out! rofl.

Eggs I make sure are fresh for undercooked versions such as dippy fried/boiled eggs. Otherwise I use the water test. As eggs age air creeps into them so the more they float the older they are.
