I made :-
Sausage casserole with the leftover pigs in blankets.
Meatloaf with the leftover sausagemeat & stuffing by adding it to some mince, with a beaten egg.
Roast squash soup.
I need to get some broccoli as I have some stilton left & only like it in soup.

this is from the thriftyfun website .........Refresh stale potato chips, crackers or other snacks of such type by putting a plateful in the microwave oven for about 30-45 seconds. Let stand for 1 minute to crisp. Cereals can also be crisped
I crumble them and use them to top cauliflower cheese or a pasta gratin dish.0 -
I had leftover mashed potato on Thursday night - it became onion and potato scone for brunch on Friday. I just added some finely chopped onion, an egg and plain flour to bind the lot together - then fried it off. Very tasty they were too0

Blended the remainder of yesterdays braising steak stew in the processor - now have some beef and vegetable soup in the fridge for tomorrow!:DOur days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Last summer I had quite a bit of veg that wasn't getting used so I peeled it all, chopped into smallish dice - individual veg at a time, sweated it down with a bit of olive oil and froze it in individual portions. I did this with carrots, aubergines, courgettes, onions, mushrooms, etc. Now when I need half an onion I just use one or two portions.
We've just had a healthy, tasty bowl of "freezer" soup with one each of the individual veg and frozen chicken stock.
Its a little bit time consuming doing this with veg, but well worth the effort. I also keep these portions in a large bag together, so that they don't disappear into the bottom of the freezer.
Me and grandaughter have just emptied, defrosted (with the help of a steamer) and inventoried the freezer, so am going to make an effort at not spending for a while, and using a lot of the stuff there is in there. There must be at least a months worth of meals
Also I had a load of garlic which was showing signs of sprouting, so I peeled it all, and put it in a jar, topped up with the oil from a jar of sun dried tomatoes. Must have been 6 mths ago, still ok in the middle of the cloves and it saved wasting it all. I also use the oil from sun dried tomatoes in bread, or when I need to sweat down veg. It just gives that extra bit of flavour.0 -
helloo - I'm new around these parts - i've been lurking all over the place since september but have only just found you all & I think I have found my new home!! I love creating meals from nothing and hate throwing anything away...at xmas everytime by big bro went to put something in the bin he asked me if I wanted it wrapped to take home...mostly, I did!!
Today I used two out of date large vanilla yoghurts that I'd been given & pureed up a tin of lychees (again that I had been given) mixed them together and have bunged it in the freezer hoping that it'll turn itself into dessert at some point - must remember to go and mix it up later. I also made what I have named compost soup... you've heard of allotment soup or half-the-garden soup?? Well this was made from veg that should have been in the compost - I chopped of the REALLY nasty bits and then added some ginger and chillis and its surpringly nice!! Hearty and warming!!!0 -
hi, what a great thread! can i tell you about a recent success?
leftovers: turkey, bacon, cooked carrots & parsnips and BREAD SAUCE (the one thing i've not 'recycled' in the past)
Fab meal creation: creamy xmas pie!
- i made a roux and added the leftover bread sauce and some milk to make a fab flavoured white sauce; chucked in the veg & meat, brought to boil, simmered then topped with mash and browned under the grill.
it was so good, it's being added to the recipie book and may even get made from stratch! i'll never waste bread sauce again!Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. I've found away to use leftovers and trick my OH....i'm hoping he doesn't notice
He will only drink either Pepsi or Coke, real brands only and they're not cheap. I always stock up when it's on offer but he goes through i'd say a bottle a day  and he is so wasteful  I am forever finding bottles with less than a quarter in the bottom or half a glass full round the house (we don't have the tidiest house) So I have just gathered up all the bottles with a little bit in the bottom and put them in one bottle, it's almost half full and i've put it in the fridge :rotfl: I'm really hoping he doesn't notice and just drinks it. If he doesn't say anything i'm going to do it all the time.
 Think happy & you'll be happy
I :heart2: my doggies
