Made a fish pie last night, from some whoopsie salmon, 3 frozen cod portions i found languishing at the bottom of the chest freezer, and a 'steam-fresh' salmon i also found lurking in there that i'd forgotten about. Topped it with a few mashed pots, a small amount of grated cheese, and the last of a bag of oats.

'Before' ;) i would have probably chucked the cod portions and salmon, or given it to my mum if she wanted it :o

I feel like a new woman :D I haven't thrown ANY food away for well over 2 weeks now! Even odd bits of pasta and veg left on plates are donated to the dog or the chooks, whereas before i wouldn't think twice about scraping them into the bin!

Thanks guys! You're an inspiration :D

** ah, just deciphered pg as pregnant? congrats if you are. I can see why you don't want to eat it. None of our family eats any blue cheese (that's why it goes into the freezer when I buy the reduced cheeseboards after Christmas) but all like it in soup!**

Thanks Chris - well I was PG but had an early miscarriage  - during one of my crying fits I was heard to complain that 'I wish I hadn't thrown out that blue cheese now' - which made my previously sympathic DH have a fit of laughter (so I hit him.....not too hard and I was very sorry afterwards, but blamed it on my hormones of course:wink: ).

Back on track....no food waste again last week :T .

This week will probably have to throw a couple of portions of 'fridge soup' - don't know what went wrong with it this time, but it is horrible and I've tried to 'doctor' it a couple of times but it is still not at all nice. Forced myslef to eat 2 portions but decided life is too short to suffer the other 2. Oh well, can't win 'em all!

Thanks... have done this with weetabix but the oatabix has a different and even more cardboardy texture! Pure sludge. Yeuch! I will probably perservere with the stuff but only on the basis that I can't bear to throw the packet out and no-one else will eat them.
    >

I know what you mean! I can't stand weetabix, but somehow the marketing campaign convinced me to buy oatibix - I thought they might be nicer, don't know why  fortunately they are long since used up!

Mr LW used the last of the jar of Marmite this morning, but I know there'll be some left in the jar, as it's so difficult to get the last of it out of the weird shaped jar. So I had an idea.... tonight, we'll have veggie sausage and mash, with Marmite gravy. I figure if I carefully pour hot water in the Marmite jar and sloosh it round, I'll get the last of it out.:p (Apologies to those of you who loathe Marmite):D

I left a jar out to do this with - but caught my DH just after he'd rinsed it with hot water - down the sink! He thought I'd left it to be washed for recycling - AARRGGHH!

He had a shock when I told him what I was going to do with it, as he hates marmite (well - it's Lidl yeast extract actually) and never knew I did this - but he always likes my gravy - LOL!

He got another shock when we'd been shopping - he kindly put away the stuff for me as I was going out, but didn't know where to put the red lentils...."Don't know where these go" says he "you don't normally buy them - I don't like them!"......"Well" says I "We've been together 6 years now and you've been having them in bolognaise all that time - and you love my bolognaise!"....am yet to tell him that he also gets prridge oats in his bolognaise now too - after all how many shocks can a man take in one week! LOL!

I've carefully told Mr LW that the jar has been left out for this reason.:p To be honest, we usually discuss what we're going to have for dinner, as he has to help me with a lot of the preparation, particularly if the very large sharp knife or what he calls the "lethal blade" in the food processor are involved.

Going on holiday tomorrow morning - so salvage job on the contents of the fridge today.

2lbs of apples - peeled, chopped and turned into stewed apples - frozen
11/2lbs carrots - peeled, chopped and frozen
2lbs onions - peeled, chopped and frozen

Used remainder of the potatoes and a few bits of veggies from freezer (carrots, parsnips, sweetcorn) with one very large chicken breast fillet between the two of us for tea tonight.

Have left us with some barm cakes to make sandwiches with, 6 cherry tomatoes, half a pack of wafer thin turkey, a few slices of bread for toast before we leave, and enough milk for a couple of cups of coffee - not bad going this year.

Wondering about juicing the 8 or so oranges and putting the juice into a 'sports bottle' for on the coach.

Have managed to completely empty one fridge/freezer so can switch that off altogether for while we're away. Will also switch off the dect phones in the morning and make sure that eveything that can be switched off and unplugged has been done. Even my work laptop has been unplugged and safely hidden away!

Think it's now time to switch this comp off as well - so nitey nite and see you all in 2 weeks time :D.
