Anyone know of where we can donate a load of frozen food in the Bath area. My son is about to leave his rented accommodation tomorrow and the freezer is still half full. We have given some to a homeless charity but they had no more room in their freezer and we really don't want to take it to the tip before we leave the place tomorrow lunchtime. Any ideas? Have tried ringing various hostels but can get no reply, presume the phone is only answered when there is some admin staff in.
if it's not too late.............
if any of it is uncooked meat/fish, you could cook it then leave in fridge for a day then refreeze - gives them a little more time to get freezer up and running in new accommodation.
Only other thing is perhaps take it around to a shelter - there's bound to be someone there even if the office is unmanned.0 -
I have just made HM stuffing to use up loads of bread crusts and onions. Does anyone know whether I can freeze it? If I can I can make load as I always have loads of crusts left off the HM bread as no-one likes them.
Thanks in advanceLife may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance....0 -
claero a really good tip i learnt with french bread (proper stuff in france) is at night soak a clean t-towel under the cold tap and wring it out..wrap the bread in it then in the morning or at lunch wrap the bread in foil (it will feel pretty damp but dont worry thats ok) and bake in the oven for 10 mins or so.
it comes out like freshly baked bread it's lovely honest (must be even my fussy dad will eat it).since doing this i've never thrown hard french bread away i'd try it with the ciabatta
Thanks for this - I'm going to go and try it now.It looked such a nice loaf that it'd be a shame to blitz it to breadcrumbs. Thank you!

yes, if it's onions and breadcrumbs, it'll be fine. Sometimes they go a bit soggy on defrosting but no big problem0 -
Dropped a packet of meringue nests on the floor today and they all got broken up. Used a couple with some stewed rhubarb & stem ginger to make a version of "Eton Mess", instead of using raspberries. Will use the remainder up in a similar way with other stewed fruit.0

Wooo - rubber chicken alert!! The free range bird I bought in Sainsbury's yesterday has excelled itself. Sunday lunch today, one chicken breast in the freezer for a future risotto, 5 and a half portions of chicken curry cooling down ready for freezing, plus three pots of stock in the freezer and another lot ready for making risotto tomorrow night. 7 and a half meals for two of us plus the foundations of three more! :j Not bad!
I've got a courgette which is beginning to soften a bit from last week's veg box - that will go in the risotto tomorrow night with some mushrooms and other bits and pieces. OH is now getting used to knowing each week what he's going to be eating in advance - he was a bit cynical about the meal planning in the first place but now he can see we're definately spending less..... It's better for me as well as I don't waste time when I get home from work wondering what we're going to eat, I can just get straight on with cooking it!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I would think either would be fine - I suppose it depends on whether you usually cook your stuffing before using.
Personally, I would probably cook the onions lightly first then mix with the uncooked breadcrumbs then freeze. I usually make mine with sausage meat aswell, which I would mix in either before after defrosting breadcrumb mix, depending on when I had some available. After Christmas and Easter, you usually find large packs of sausage meat greatly reduce in the shops and i split it into portions then freeze.0
